Clicks and noise?

I've recorded an acoustic rhythm part that has a few finger squeaks that I want to get rid of.  I split the track up into clips at the points where I hear the squeaks.  I cropped the squeaks out but I hear a clicking noise at the ending and beginning of the cropped clips.  Any suggestions...?

There is a setting in X1 to set clips to zero crossing point (or something like that). Not at my DAW so I can't tell you exactly where it is. It sounds like when you split the track up you dragged your edges to a point where the wav's are not at zero db.

You can repair these clips by placing a short fade at the beginning and ending of each clip that you edited. 20 to 30 ms should do it.

That should eliminate the clicks.. Clips must be split at a "zero crossing" otherwise you will have an abrupt jump in amplitude value which is what creates the "clicks" you are hearing.

Make sure you find the "split at zero crossings" setting that Bub mentions. I think it's under the nudge area of "options". Then in the future this won't happen to you anymore.

OK, I get the concept of splitting at zero crossings, however, I'm not sure how to get SONAR to automatically spit at zero crossings.  There's a reference to Zero Crossings in the online help but it just describes what zero crossings are.  Can someone give me a step by step approach please?

    amiller,

Try this. Turn Snap To 'on.' Then in the Snap Settings in the Control Bar choose Absolute Time and enter '1' Sample. In preferences go to Snap and Nudge and in the Snap section check the box 'Audio Zero Crossings'. Now wherever you place your cursor in a track will be at a zero crossing.

And if you hold down the Alt key with the Smart Tool every split will be at a Zero Crossing.

    Humbly Yours

Actually, I figured it out earlier, however, you've added some additional useful information such as the Alt key with the Smart Tool...THANKS!
