problem with audio dropouts

Out of no where I'm getting severe audio dropouts. I haven't changed anything. I have the latest drivers. Even playing one flute with no effects processors it will play about 3 notes and stop. ("Audio dropout"). I set the buffer sizes higher (which I've never had to do before) and still no luck.  The device manager says my audio card is working fine.  Any ideas anyone??  I think the M-Audio 410 I'm using is going bad. I also have a new Raptor sample drive which has been working fine.

XP SP3, Sonar 5 PE.   I've narrowed it down to the project. I don't know why but there's something not loaded right or ???? with that project. I started a new project with several of the same instruments and everything is fine. No dropouts. Go figure??

what sampling rate is your project?  what latency are you running it at?  right before the dropout, is there a high CPU usage or a high disk usage (in the red?)

you say that you have narrowed it down to the project - what softsynths and FX are you using in that project?
