EZdrummer Multichannel Tip

You smart forum readers may already know this but I came across an unexpected behavior when using EZdrummer in multichannel mode in Sonar.

EZdrummer continues to output a stereo signal in the instrument track even though I had individual tracks working for the kick, snare, hi hats, etc.

I was wondering why lowering the individual outs made so little difference and when I muted all of the individual outs, I was still hearing the drums.  I thought at first that my midi channel was triggering an external module, but no. Then I muted the EZdrummer instrument track and problem solved! All individual tracks work fine now!

Has anyone else noticed this?

Seeing nothing but the expected behavior here in EZDrummer 1.3.0.

I see you mentioned something about sound from an instrument track.  If you let X1 create multiple tracks when you INSERT A SOFTSYNTH from the menu, you won't get an instrument track or are you referring to the midi track?

I'm pretty sure he was running an instrument track AND individual output tracks, hence his problem.  Or am I not understanding you dlesaux, ol pal.

The only way I came up with doing that was to open the EZdrummer session as a Simple Instrument Track and then manually add a number of audio tracks.  You would have to switch EZdrummer to multichannel and assign each track to an appropriate EZdrummer output.  When I did that, the simple instrument track picked up Track 1 which defaults to the Kick drum in the EXD multi out mode.  I suppose he could have reassigned the simple instrument track to EZD track 7 or 8 which might end up as a Room mic or Compressed mix track in some EZXs.

Yeah Yourolpal, I created a simple instrument track and then selected multitrack.. Hence the problem! Still learning!

Overheads and ambience (room) mics will always have bleed in them - just like they do if you are dealing with a live recorded kit.  If you want to break the laws of physics you have to buy Superior Drummer which allows you to turn off or adjust the bleed into any mic channel.
