When X1 crashes?

I usually have to reboot. I open the task manager to stop all Sonar process, but they never really stop...

I don't like the crashing - and I really don't like having to reboot in order to start sonar again. Any other experiences or thoughts?

It takes almost 5 minutes for Windows 7 to release it. If you can wait that long, it has always released here.

In such a case I unplug or turn off the external audio interface and MIDI port (M-Audio MIDI Port 1x1) and then the Sonar process ends.

Thanks for this tip.  I'm getting the occassional crash.  I thought I HAD to reboot since, even though I've tried stopping Sonar in Task Manager,  the process wouldn't quit after a few seconds.

If you still have SONAR 8.5 loaded on your computer, start it and exit out and it will kill all of the "sonar.exe" (or whatever it's called) that's still running in task manger. HTH!!!

I always like to reboot anyway when this happens to me. Sometimes if I feel X1 acting up, usually after lots of midi note editing in the PVR, I just save, close, and reboot just to start it fresh again. This is with X1a as I have not installed the updates due to a current project that's going fine.

I'm just starting with X1bx64 (patched to 246 & running on Win7x64) and also appreciate this info, I've been rebooting while waiting for the task manager to kill a freeze, probably risking data contamination.  I appreciate also the tip about starting/closing 8.5 to flush out X1, but was wondering if anyone has a simpler way or any ideas about why the process is so slow.  I've also found the program very slow to open a couple of the sample projects that come with it, possibly because it was looking for some plugins not on my system.  (Did they really bundle projects with plugs that aren't default stock...?)  Felt like it was scanning the entire computer, not just the VST pathways!  Any thoughts about how/why it takes so long?  I turned off the virus scanner, but that didn't seem to make much difference.

    Thx, Ron
