Forum surfing tip

Bored and surfing around forums for entertainment? Here's a tip: sort any forum by the number of replies (click the "Replies" column heading). The ones with the most replies are the best hunting grounds for entertainment. Typically, they start with a presumptuous premise that invites disagreement (e.g. "why ITB mixes sound worse than analog"). If it's a broad enough generalization you can be sure that many will have a contrary opinion, informed or otherwise.

Try it on any of the forums at Gearslutz. Even the staid Acoustics forum has some good ones. My favorite is the long thread pitting Dan Lavry against Apogee marketing weenies. Entertaining and educational!

Curiously, this method is less effective here in the CH. Our #1 thread is SteveStrummer's innocuous "crap jokes" thread. There is some entertainment value there, of course, but no controversy or flame-baiting. We're just too polite here, although the #2 thread suggests otherwise.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

#2 - Ah the infamous Carissa thread. Guys oogling over a picture. Speculations abounded. Fun times.

Do a reverse search on the Coffee House (with the "from the beginning" option of course, and see who Am the proud owner of the least replies.)

I finally found the original "20-40%" thread from 2004. 678 posts before being locked by Ron Kuper.

He closes with " I am still working on getting to the bottom of the sonic differences reported by shea. I will definitely report my findings once I have some solid data to provide." I wonder if that ever happened.

    Hi Bit,

Can you provide a link to the Lavry thread? I can't find it and I'd kind of like to read it.

    Thanks,

    Bub.

Just curious...  I clicked on your "Here it is" link when I meant to click on the first one (the 20%, etc. one) however all I get is a blank page.  I tried the link with IE, Chrome and Firefox - all the same: a blank page.  Now that I've realized that I had the wrong link, I probably don't need to use the link, but I'm puzzled as to why the link only went to a blank page for me since it obviously worked for Bub.

Evidentally the site was down when I tried (it was around 2am) - it works now.
