session drummer master class, midi track clipping?

I'm following the master class video on session drummer and trying to recreate the steps in Sonar X1.  One strange thing I noticed is that regardless of the levels for the synth outputs, the red clippping light lights up on the midi track, even though the level is well beneath it.  Any ideas?

Just a bit more info:  I'm adding Session Drummer 3 w/ a MIDI source, and all synth audio outputs in a folder.  I'm then just adding some drums in the step sequencer.  The audio level for the kick in the synth is fine, but in the MIDI source the red clip light turns on.  Hopefully that make sense.  Thanks!
Edit: Hrm.  I'm wondering if the clipping light means something different on a MIDI source.  After taking a look at the video again, it looks like it shows the same behavior that I'm experiencing.

I wonder if a MIDI signal can clip, because it has no sound?? It's like asking if letter "A" or a picture can clip, isn't it? It only has the highest possible value of 127 and when it is reached, that's it, it can't go above it.

Could it be the light you see only indicates that MIDI is being transmitted? I've never used Session Drummer and I'm not at my DAW so I don't remember the details.

In SHS7, the top bar in the midi track level meters lights up whenever midi is being transmitted.  However, the top bar is green like all the lower bars.  I could be a different color in other products.

Midi can't clip.  There is no audio.  I think the level meters show the velocity of the midi data which peaks at level 127.

dont worry//midi tracks clip all the time.as they are sending the strongest signal of data..its the audio tracks that are triggered by this data that you want to watch out for...the midi score itself...dont worry.
