Re-Direct audio Output to midi Input (KTDrumTrigger)

Dear all,

I have downloaded the free vst plugin KTDrumTrigger. It is a VST plugin with custom editor that triggers MIDI notes based on the sound level of the incoming audio stream usually used to perform drum replacement of single drum tracks.

KTDrumTrigger is a plugin with 1 audio input, 1 audio output and 1 MIDI output. In order to be able to use it, the host (Sonar X1 in my case) must be able to send back MIDI events from the plugin in the audio track to the midi track.

I have been trying to do it in Sonar X1 but I cant do it work. In the little setup instruccions they only explain how to make it work in Sonar 6 (editing unexisting registry keys of windows), and other DAWs. I am going to show you the explanation about how do it work in Ableton Live in order to let you understand what I need in Sonar X1.

Ableton Live (it is soi easy):
1. Add an audio track and put some audio on it.
2. Drag a KTDrumTrigger device from the Plug-In Device Browser onto the
   audio track's Track View.
3. Add a MIDI track.
4. Drag a drum VSTi from the Plug-In Device Browser onto the MIDI track's
   Track View.
5. In the In/Out section of the MIDI track, you will see that the audio
track that has the KTDrumTrigger device on it, appears as a choice for
the "MIDI From" property. Select that audio track.
6. Now, to just hear your VSTi play back the MIDI events from KTDrumTrigger,
just enable monitoring for the MIDI track.
Don't forget to make sure that the MIDI note numbers in KTDrumTrigger
correspond to valid note numbers for your VSTi.

The official web of this free vst is (just in case):

Thank you everybody for your support.

Often for this type of plug you have to enable it as a Synth - in Utilities/Cakewalk Plugin Manager - under VST Audio effects, find KTDrumTrigger - then click Plugin Properties, then select "Configure as Synth"

This kinda makes me laugh (not that this is funny) but it seams like we are still trying hard to get good audio out of a midi performance - and now we want midi out of an audio performance!

    Just seems a bit ironic to me . . . . . . . . . .

    Carry On!

Thank you. I had already activated it also as a softsynth but it didnt work.

What I am trying to dp is a home made pad to play drums, but I need to redirect audio output to midi input through ktdtriggerr that activates a drum softsynth that plays the real drum sound.

this evening i will show you a video that explain it clearly.

    any suggestion?

Be a bit more specific about your steps then. How did you insert - as an effect or a soft synth? What you need to do is create an audio track, and insert KTDTrigger into the effects bin (even though it is installed through plugin manager as a softsynth) as an audio effect. All of the steps that were identified in your post for the other host should directly translate to SONAR X1 (more or less, see below) - should work the same way. I don't have/use ktdtrigger - but the approach is similar to other midi out vst plugs.

EDIT - well for step 4 simply create a new VSTi instance of your drum synth/sampler, and edit the MIDI out from your MIDI track to point to the drum VSTi you are using.
