yea, a good one.  I've got the full version and they upgraded it to 1.2.  I don't use the player, but it should sound good.  The full version certainly does.

Dave, have you purchased anything from a member at KVR? Generally, you can get it for 1/2 the price and sometimes included are some sound libraries.

The player suffers from the same limitation as Kontakt's: most inexpensive libraries are not compatible with the free player.

Those sold directly by Camel are compatible with the free player, though. (That's actually better than NI's deal, since their own libraries are not compatible with their own free player, go figure.)   

At least it looks like the player will play and manipulate any SZF file which could be interesting.

Alchemy Player may be the only sample player you ever need, since it can now load any SFZ sample library. Built with the Alchemy engine under the hood, it provides ready to play sounds that can be easily tweaked via the intuitive interface.

I am not sure what you mean about NI. NI libraries, such as the Scarbee basses and electric pianos, Vintage Organs, Alicia's Keys etc are compatable with the player. I used to use Pre and Jay bass in the free player (v3.5 and 4) before buying the full version.

Actually, I've seen both Alchemy and FabFilter products regularly pop up for sale.....especially Alchemy which usually has been going for anywhere between $100-$150 (depending on what other goodies are attached to it). The Fab Filter occasionally pops up, but I can't recall seeing omnisphere.
 
 

I'm drawn to the KVR market forum like a moth to a flame and I know it pretty well.  A little patience will get you an Alchemy offer and any number of other synths for a reasonable price.  But Omnisphere almost never comes up for sale, and when it does, the price is usually not much lower than what you can get a new copy for on e-bay.
 
I almost bought Omnisphere for $400 on ebay recently.  But I'm not going to have time to do much with it for the next year.  It occurs to me that it's about time for Spectrasonics to release a major upgrade that'll cost money to current users.  So maybe waiting another eight to twelve months for Omnishpere (Ubersphere, or whatever the next product will be called) might be prudent.  I can't see Spectrasonics staying in business without something new in the pipeline fairly soon.  Obviously, that's just a guess on my part.
 
But if you could pick up Alchemy for around a hundred bucks (or more if some libraries are included), you'd certainly be getting your money's worth IMO.
