Another monitor q for X1

A question for those of you using large monitors.
I tried to use a 4 year old 32" HP HDTV for a monitor with Sonar with the resolution set to fill the display. I thought I would be able to open 4 softsynths showing the GUI`s, one in each corner of the display and use a second monitor for the trackview. All I get is one huge display and setting different resolutions is not the answer... As of now,I am connected with a VGA cable from my Navida 8600GT and was wondering if a DVI to HDMI cable would help for what I am trying  to do?
I plan on getting another monitor but I wish I could find a way to use this before I do that, I mean before I go blind.

Most soft synth GUI's can't be resized because they use bitmap graphics for their interfaces. So, while you may be able to resize the window that contains the interface, you'll more than likely cut off part of the interface when doing that. There's nothing you can do to get around that problem.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. I can still use the TV for the track and counsel views.
