I need some Guitar Fixin' Advice

I have an old Jackson with a Floyd Rose that needs some adjustments (action & staying in tune when using the whammy etc..).
Would you recommend taking it to GC or just look for a private shop?
(I've tried to do these myself, but not very succesful.)
What's the general price range they'd charge for this?

Thanks,

The key to getting a whammy to stay in tune is having it adjusted correctly.  You want the bridge to be parallel with the guitar's body.  Adjusting the spring tension usually gets this done.

    Should look like image I.

Higher quality whammy's adjust better than cheapy ones.  Is your's a real Floyd Rose or a Floyd Rose licensed one?  Big difference.  I've replaced a licensed one with a Gotoh.  Very good whammy for a fair price.

I'm not sure if it's a real FR or a licensed (how can I verify this?)

I tried adjusting the spring tension (sometime back), but it didn't quite do the job as I have to regulary re-tune the guitar. So, I'm wondering if it's worth fixing the Jackson or just save up for the Variax 700.

Oh mesh. You don't want the Variax 700. You want the new James Tyler Variax.

    Better check it out.....

Yes Baps....I meant to get the new Variax (James Tyler (I was going by short term memory.....)). Didn't Line6 replace the V700 with the new James Tyler model?

I hear ya Baps!! This has been on my wish list since V700 came out.
Somehow diapers and baby food always seem to be on the priority list and Line6 seems to be dropping on the polls.....

Give it another 30 years and you'll be able to start saving for it.

    Hey Ol Pal,
Is it the James Tyler model you're talking about?

Nope...sorry.  It's the Variax 500...the original.  Which, IMHO, is still the best looking one.  Mine's tobacco sunburst and really does play like buttah.

I'm looking to get the JT model, but I'll have to fund it with the sale of my amp. I know you have almost everything under the sun, so please let me know when you're going to part with anything else...
