Reverb Sends

Maybe this should be obvious, but I am new to doing things 100% in the box.

To use reverb as a send/receive instead of as an insert, I think I should set up an Auxiliary bus, insert the reverb in this bus, route the bus to Master, and send individual tracks/channels to both the Auxiliary bus and Master.

Not sure if that's right or how exactly to do what I just said.  (I tried plugging in patch cords but only succeeded in ruining my monitor.)

Thoughts?

    You are correct!

Just remember to set the Verb to 100% wet.

Each track's Output should go to your Master (or whatever bussing architecture you've set up), and then just insert a send to the Verb bus on any track you want to verb out and adjust to taste.

Interestingly, the main vocal reverb on the Cori Yarckin demo is set up this way except that it includes the dry signal. I wonder why?

    Cheers, Peter.

Just remember to set the reverb 100% wet on the aux.

If you're coming from a traditional analog hardware environment, it takes some getting used to the idea that on a computer you have unlimited sends and unlimited buses, and to appreciate the possibilities that really opens up.

You can, for example, have multiple reverbs (e.g. a long one, a short one and an ambient one), multiple sends, and you can run all the reverbs into the same vocal bus that the dry signals are going to. And don't forget your parallel compression bus, maybe even a distortion bus.

When I made the jump from consoles and tape decks it took me a while to stop thinking of aux sends and buses as limited resources that had to be conserved.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Thanks, guys.

And, bitflipper, you nailed it.  I was using computer music stuff before Roger Linn made his first drum machine, but, until recently, I always had a bunch of hardware wired together.

I love arranging with VIs and doing all the mixing in the box, but my head isn't quite right yet.
