Can I install both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of X1 Producer?
Hi guys, just a quick question for you. I've just bought a new PC - Win7/Core i7/16GB RAM. I want to eventually run X1 Producer in 64bit to start taking full advantage of all my RAM. In the meantime, are there any problems with installing both the 32bit and the 64bit versions? As I say, I want to be working with 64bit all the time someway down the line, but until I've sussed out which of my 3rd party plug-ins will and won't work, and other potential pitfalls, I just want to crack on a get some recording done with 'familiar' software, if that makes sense. If it is OK to install both versions, will I still be able to open projects and work on them in either? Many thanks in advance Steve

Steve - I originally installed 32bit Sonar on my new quad 64 Win7 machine. Win7 64bit makes you put 32bit plug-ins in different folders than expected. So to get X1 32 working on my new machine was kind of a hassle. I went ahead and installed X1 64 which didn't take much time. I ironed everything out with the plug-ins (32bit and 64bit plugins) so that X132 and X164 both work fine. All I use is X1 64bit now.

Steve, I have both 32bit and 64bit on my win7x64 machine. I needed to do that because I still had some projects that used Guitar Rig3, but GR3 doesn't work in 64bit. for 64bit you have to use GR4 and I needed to finish those projects without reworking GR4. as guitartrek says, since they install into different folders, it's a little bit of a hassle to get all plugins scanned in both systems (although some of the 64bit plugins won't work in 32bit sonar, as mentioned). but both 32bit and 64bit X1 Prod work well on my system!

Here's a related question. When installing the 64bit version of X1 Producer, do some of the plug ins not install? I'm contemplating upgrading from Home Studio. When I install the 64bit version of Home Studio, some of the plugins don't install and I think they might be older DX plugins. Is this the case for some of the included Producer plug ins? If so, which ones? Dan

It's usually the old 32bit plug ins (such as DreamStation) that are not checked to be installed, but there are a few others. During installation, just scroll through the list of plug ins and select them all to be installed, if you want.

I have both installed, but you have to choose where you are going to run your VI plug-ins.

I'm running both just fine and dandy. The plug-in folders are easily dealt with. I created a VSTPlugins folder under C:\Program Files\ I also created 2 folders under C:\Program Files (x86)\ One called VSTPlugins and one called VSTBridged On Sonar (x64) I set the scan paths to C:\Progam Files\VSTPlugins and C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTBridged Then on the 32 bit version set the paths to C:\Progam Files (x86)\VSTPlugins and C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTBridged All the 64 bit specific plugs then go in C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins. Likewise 32 bit specific plugs go in C:\Program Files(x86)\VSTPlugins 32 Bit plugs to be shared by both apps then go in C:\Program Files(x86)\VSTBridged. ...phew, it's easier to set up than explain...

My question then really boils down to: are some of the plugins included in X1 Producer similar to Dreamstation in that they won't work in the 64bit X1? If so which ones (other than the already mentioned Dreamstation)? thanks, Dan

I have both installed. I had both flavors installed with Sonar 8.5, so I had my VST folders sorted. There are a couple of oddities, like Dreamstation showing up in the DXi menu in X1 64-bit but once you get used to which VSTs have to be in which folder it's fine. You could try DXishell to get Dreamstation and other 32-bit DXis wrapped as VSTs (32-bit). As I recall, it worked with Dreamstation.
