UAD Instalation advice from anyone in the know

Hi guys

Any UAD heads here able to help me out?

I have just bought a UAD SOlO card and installed it on my new PC, did it the correct way and installed software and drivers first and then put in hardware. I have 2 questions.

1) I did not install the RTAS drivers as I had not got round to installing Pro-Tools at this point and it would not install as there was no RTAS file structure yet for it to install into (doh), I got an error message and carried on figuring I would 'fix' this later. Can I just re-run the software install to get the rtas plugins with the UAD card in place or should I take the card out re-run software install to get RTAS and then put card back in.

2) I have also now bought a second SOlO card ( I bought a Twin-finity preamp which had a solo card included, then bought a second because I want to use em on drum overheads and the deal was too good, hence why I have 2 solos's) Can I just install this into a slot, or given my above question should I remove original card, Install the software again and then put both cards in?

3) Finally I am fairly sure i am not on the latest version of the software/drivers, should I download this and install using 5.8, or should I use the cd and then upgrade to 5.8 later and again should the cards come in and out for this upgrade or once they are in place can I re-install software no problem, ie is it only the first time you place a card?

Basically what I am looking for is advice on the best way to get both cards installed with the latest UAD software and to get RTAS version in place for my Protools installation. I am using Protools 9.

Appreciate you're taking the time and if this is answered somewhere else just point me in that direction.

As I recall, you can just install the second card and the existing UAD SW will see it fine.

Just make sure both cards show up as active in the little UAD app thingy.

Unless you're interested in buying/testing the newest plugs, I don't believe in upgrading SW "just to have the latest" if everything is currently working.

Don't know about RTAS, as I'm not that kind of guy.

    Thanks for that

Nothing is working yet, its a new build, so may as well have latest and greatest plus I have my eye on the studer.

In terms of RTAS I will need to rerun the software installer, I take it that that won't affect the currently installed cards?

    Thanks for posting

If I remember correctly when I put a Duo card in my PC (after already having a Quad card installed) all I had to do was register the card at the Universal Audio site and both worked in my machine.  This I believe gives you a new authorization file that the plugs you currently own can be accessed by both of them.

As for the RTAS question, I really can't say because I don't run any ProTools on my PC.  My guess would be to just un-install the software (not the driver) and re-install it selecting VST and RTAS.  You might want to download the latest software because the Studer is some good stuff to demo.

    Hope this helps,
    Tom

It may be useful to ask some of these questions on the UAD forums too.

    Thanks for you're replies

I did ask in the UAD forums first but as yet still no reply to my thread, so given that I am a more active member of this forum and that I new a lot of guys here use UAD i thought I would try.

Its funny good job I waited another day, UAD have just released 5.9 today of the software :)

I have re-read the manual and its seems the recomendation is that you can install another card without re-installing the drivers, but if you have a second card to install as well as doing a software update, that you should update software first, then install 2nd card.

    All very interesting :)
