Adding compressor / limiter question

The only way to add a compressor in the signal chain while recording is to have one before the audio interface correct?

You cannot use a plug in or add one in the effects bin and make it work right?

You'll hear it, but it won't have anything to do with stopping overs in the AD or effecting the sound going in.  There is no difference between using soft effects during recording or during mixing.

With a Line6 interface it is possible to record a wet as well as dry signal, when using either POD Farm or GearBox software.  I don't know if any others have this facility.

Yes, if you are getting some real wild dynamics you would use a hardware compressor. The FMR-RNC is a nice one for that.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I need a compressor / Limiter for Bass guitar. But I might try recording without it first and see.

I run through an MW1, (Michael Wagener DI / reamp box) then process using Ampeg's Bass VST Sim. If possible I would like to just have something in place as a limiter, but I will see how it goes.
