Dyad DXI; problems getting to work in Sonar x1 Producer
First of all, hi, I'm new to the forums here and new to Sonar X1 Producer. I apologize for the length of this post, but I'm trying to be thorough with pertinent information to solving my issue. In short, I'm trying to get Dyad DXI to work in Sonar x1 Producer, as it was used in many of my old project files. I have the files from an old computer, but having lost the old install discs for my old software (Homestudio 2XL), I cannot install it regularly in my new computer. ... My computer: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Intel Core I3 CPU, M380 @ 2.53 ghz (quad-core) 8.00 GB ram no dedicated sound card; (UA-1G USB Audio Interface is on the way) I have used Cakewalk Homestudio 2 XL for years on my old computer, mostly for sequencing midi compositions. One of the primary instruments I used was Dyad DXI, which was included in Homestudio 2. I decided to upgrade to a new laptop, but by the time I received it I had misplaced my old installation discs for Homestudio 2 (for all intents and purposes, GONE FOREVER). Thus, I decided to upgrade my software, with Sonar X1 Producer (64 bit). I am happy so far with the program, and it opens all my old projects perfectly (yay!). having made a backup of my old computer on an external drive, I was even able to copy over my old vst plugins I used in my old projects, and they imported over and work. The only problem, is I used the Dyad DXI plugin for soundfonts, in most of my old project files. I copied the file from the old <Cakewalk\Shared DXI> path to the similar path in Sonar x1. But, it doesn't recognize it. When I open the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager x64, under the DXI plug in category, it doesn't list Dyad DXI. The Help file says that Sonar automatically finds and used Registered Plug-ins ... Obviously, I can reassign new Soft Synths to the tracks that used Dyad DXI ... but being able to open them closer to as they were would be ideal. ... Which gets me to finding a solution for my problem. I figure I have 2 options: 1) finding a legitimate copy of Dyad DXI to install on my computer, even if I have to buy it again; or 2) finding a way to register the Dyad DXI files I already have as a Direct-X plugin on my new computer. Option 1: Upon searching for Dyad DXI, I can easily find old pages announcing it's release ( www.kvraudio.com ) and available demos. However, the link to the available demo, and presumed purchase of product, is no longer online http://www.powerfx.com/dyad. I can only assume powerfx, who developed the dxi, is out of business. Great. I could not find it separately for purchase/download anywhere. Option 2: I have researched registering *.dll files online, and I found the following useful link, which suggests I use the Regsvr32.exe in the "run" command. Explanation of Regsvr32 usage and error messages I ran this command: < regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\Dyad DXi\Sampler.dll> With following the directions in the above link, I get an error that says "the module "C:\program" failed to load." I have determined this is because I needed to find the short path name for everything, something I'm still not sure how to determine. I then put it in a new directory without spaces & ran this command: < regsvr32 C:\DyadDXI\Sampler.dll> & I got this error: "The Module "C:\DyadDXI\Sampler.dll" was loaded but the call to DLLRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005. For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term." All the info I can find on that is that error means my user account on my computer may not have sufficient administrator privileges, but I am logged on as an administrator. Has anyone dealt with a problem like this before? Any ideas on getting the Dyad DXI to work with Sonar X1, or finding a new installable version of Dyad DXI? A solution of any kind would be appreciated and save me a ton of work and hassle. Thank you!

I had the same problem but did a partial install from my homestudio disk. Sense you can't do that...well, I guess you've already done this but if not... Go to your preferences (I have studio but I assume producer is the same) and make sure that under the VST settings you've got the folder listed where the sampler.dll file (and all the dyad samples) are. If it's not listed, sonar will not scan that folder, therefore will not see the dll. Sometimes, (rarely) have I had to TELL sonar to scan for new plug ins before it found them, even when they were in listed folders. If that doesn't work you could always load the dyad samples into another SF player, such as sfz+. It's a little different from the dyad, but if you've got the sounds and you can't load the plugin, sfz+ will get the job done. It has pretty much all the same controls, just the layout is a little different. And I think it's a free dl on the cakewalk website too. Good luck.

The OP is talking about a DXi...would it really help to add the folder to VST scanning? I'd like to know the answer to this, because i'm trying to get FXpansion DR008 working with Sonar X1. I'm using Window 7 x64, and for some reason that i don't remember, the VSTi version of DR008 won't install on Win7 x64. I was hoping to get the DXi version of DR008 working but, after using the same regsvr command as the OP, i still don't have DR008 showing up among active DXi's. Any suggestions? Regards Glenn

Crud I forget dyad is a dxi. Duh! Okay that is different. Well I am not an expert...this is all I can give you. :) If sonar isn't seeing it at all then the only thing I can think of is that possibly it isn't enabled in the utilties/plug in manager, which if you go there and don't see it in the list either the plug in is excluded (I'm assuming you checked that though), or the file is faulty and that is why it won't load. In my case, now that I've had more sleep and less alcohol...I should mention that I did a major upgrade from windows xp to win 7 32 bit, installing sonar on that system. When I went back and copied the dxi's from my other computer, some of them worked and some of them didn't. Those that didn't, I ran the setup file with the "run programs from previous versions of windows" thing and fixed all but the dyad problem. To which the only thing I could figure was a faulty .dll, as when I installed from the home studio disk via the "run programs from previous versions", it works fine. Have only had sonar a couple of months now and still trying to familiarize with it. Hope that helps in any case. :)

Yes, I tried most of that ... it appears it MAY not work, although there is a possibility it will, if I can get the regsvr32 command to work properly. I have already encountered situations where Windows 7 doesn't work with older programs, no matter what sort of tweaking of compatibility settings and such you do. Yeah, I've thought of that, I can DO that ... it's just irritatingly unnecessary in my mind. Ideally, I'd just open the old files, as I have tons of old random half finished projects and brainstorming things that I'll go back to later, and they are most useful to me if I can just open and play them quickly, instead of taking the time to reassign new instuments. I am STRONGLY considering purchasing an old copy of HomeStudio 2, or some other older cakewalk program that comes bundled with Dyad DXI so I can do a partial install of the DXI. If I can find it at all, that is, on EBAY, I bet it would be quite inexpensive. There should be a program that registers DLL files for you, without some command line. Thanks for everyone's support. I hope we can find an answer soon.
