Welcome to the world of the VS-100. I'll see if I can answer your questions, but there are a few others that frequent this forum that may also weight in.
1: I believe you should match the drivers up to your OS, not your software. If you are using Windows 7 64 bit, use the 64 bit drivers. I am not 64 bit here so I don't know this for certain, but that is my understanding of it.
2: Guitar rig, you should match up to the software you are using. Since Sonar VS is 32 bit, you should run this in 32 bit mode.
3: EZ is exactly that - EZ
There really isn't much to getting this going. All you need to do is "insert a soft synth", and choose EZ drummer. I would recommend you use a "simple instrument track" (which will be one of you options) until you get used to all the possibilities. Ultimately you will want to send each drum to it's own track, but to start out I recommend keeping it simple and using the internal EZ mixer. What you need to do with Sonar VS is search the manual/help file (F1) for "insert soft synth" and "simple instrument track". I'm not sure about the EZ manual, I've never had to look at it
4: I take it all those files are opening in Adobe Reader because the program has been associated with it in error? I'm not sure how to fix this, but if you do a google search for "acrobat reader file associations" it might come up with a few options. If I have misunderstood your problem, ignore this advice - LOL!
EDIT: I'm not sure what the upgrade path is for Sonar VS to Sonar X1, but it is something you should consider. Studio or Producer would both be a huge upgrade if you can find one to match a budget.
