Mortise cutting tools?

I usually cut mortises on my fancy smancy router table.

My wife and I started some cabinets this weekend and I want to assemble all the fascia with mortise and tenon. I have all the plywood shell work cut and assembled.

The end cuts are easy on the router but the blind cuts in the middle of the board run are a bit harder because I have to rely 100% on my jig and don't really get to see what I'm doing. I am also working on a longish 84in run and so setting up a jig isn't as easy as with shorter lengths.

I'm thinking I'd be willing to buy a fancy dedicated mortise cutting tool... but have never had a chance to see one work in real life.

I'm working with 1/4 sawn pine so a hand chisel is not a great solution. The wood doesn't cut real well with a chisel.

Do any of you have any experience with the bench top "mortise cutters"?

How about another suggestion for cutting mortises?

Thanks,
mike

Yes, when I make tenons I just set up several saws and make the rounds from step to step.

I've never used a mortise bit like that. I assume you need one of the specialized direct drive heads to drive it? Is their an impact wrench aspect to the operation as well?

    I also saw this: http://www.mortisepal.com

and I might make a jig like it, but I generally dislike plunging the router when it's loose. That's why I have the fancy table.

I'm starting to think about how I can build a cross sled jig to mount on my table.

If some one could tell me that the rigs like this work great:

I might just buy one but I've read some mixed reviews about each one.

    best regards,
    mike
