Line 6 JTV 69 .vs GR55 GK3 ????
I ordered a James Tyler JTV 69....been on back order forever. Gets good reviews.Basically a decent 700 dollar guitar with 700 dollars worth of line 6 emulation electronics. Ability to change tunings by turning a knob.Emulates acoustics ,les, tele and tons of others. Things I like- the great emulations, the whole package married into one guitar.Software upgradable. Communicates with the pod family. I have the HD500 already... Things I don't like- Price. The closest competition- The Roland GR 55 and the GK 3 pickup. Three processors. A synth with many guitar emulations and things no guitar should ever play. Things I like- Can be fitted to a guitar I have now. Has more sound capability in terms of what it can play. It is half the price of the line 6 guitar but does not include the guitar... Things I don't like- Looks like a borg implant and can clearly be seen as an addition to your guitar. From reading reviews it takes a lot of tweaking to make it do what you want it to. Doesn't seem as guitar specific and seems more like a high tech toy than a functional piece of gear. What would you do.......Oh no now Ive asked the question. ????? I am considering going to the GR55.

I went with Roland years ago. VG-88, GR-30, GI-20 and mounted the GK-3 hexaphonic on a deluxe Strat. ( at work....maybe it's a GK-2?) Looks wasn't an issue for me as I haven't done stage since '85. "high tech toy" ? I don't know...to each their own but I've used the stuff and be satisfied and had a lot of fun. I'd go with the GR55....if for no reason other than Line 6 will never get another dime of mine...doesn't mean nothing to you though. Just sayin'.

Sorry you had a bad experience there........I guess looks could be offset with a black guitar. I'm not super critical of looks. I am off the stage temporarily now too.Taking a break. To me if the addition looked like a part of the guitar I wouldn't have as much a problem with it. Mounted externally it seemed to be something that could be spilled on, bumped etc. I'm not attending a German beer event, but still... Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have heard the JTV top of line is the way to go, not the cheaper ones.

Well - I've been using a GNX3, VG8ex, and GR33 for some time (along with some other stuff - I've got a custom built buffered signal splitter in my rig). I went out and got the GR55 as soon as it was available - took it back within a week, simply because it didn't do all the things - or as well - as my current rig. I'm NOT slamming the 55 - it's certainly worth your looking at - it's just that they made too many compromises in the various modules to get their "all-in-one" thing happening. Modeling flexibility can't touch the VG, synth components are nice, but my 33 has more depth - things like that. Tracking is as good as others, but for my money not all that much better. Again - I'd encourage you to give the 55 a look, it was a cool little box, particularly for someone just getting started in alternate guitar processing. But I'm sort of a power user for this stuff, and in the interests of making it "accessible" they dumbed it down a bit too much for my tastes. YMMV.

If you like the GR55 or GR33 but don't want the Borg implant GK-3 on your guitar there are other options. My Dark Tiger (Dark Fire with Dusk Tiger firmware) has a hex bridge pup as standard and the interface box will plug directly into things lke the GR33. Does anyone have a spare GR33 they don't want?

If you like the GR55 or GR33 but don't want the Borg implant GK-3 on your guitar there are other options. Absolutely - Godin, Brian Moore, Carvin are all making integrated guitars. I use two more-or-less identical Roland-Ready Strats most of the time, have the Borg box on a couple others including a couple acoustics. About my only lament is I've never found a way to internally or externally put a GK on my Steinberger GM Pro. Not enough room ON it for the Borg accessory, or IN it for the various circuit boards and such.

These guitars(JTV 69) are still going through a refining process with the customers being the guinea pigs. I canceled my order for now. A great concept though. I am sure they will get better. I am actually thinking about building a guitar and putting the graphtech ghost Hex in it. Since I don't have a fully equipped wood shop I would likely buy a pre-made body and neck...warmoth possibly.

Starise I used the GR-30 for the sitar part of this tune-Warren is singing and ask me to do the music for it. Been quite a while back. I sure like the GR-30- fast tracking and some usuable sounds. Fun stuff but still "fake". Something I've had to get use to since not doing the group thing anymore.

That's a good question LOL. You know what's fun? When you get your guitar to midi- you can link your midi chain BUT you can still have your guitar out too AND you can also use the synths in your host. It can be a lot fun and get real crazy... For example; I've had the GR-30, VG8, Spectrasonics Trilogy, Omnisphere and Stylus Guitar Rig4 all going at the same time....and could have done more. The combinations can be usuable or just nuts. And thanks for the kudos!
