VST Effects and Live Guitar?

Is there a vst host that can allow insane plugs like PSP NO2 or Nitro or some of the other seriously FSU plugins to work with a live guitar rig?

I know I could do it with Sonar X1b2alpha but that seems like overkill.  I am thinking a simple one in one out interface, a host of some very simple means, and the ability to control insane effects from a laptop, then into a real amp (not a sim).

Anyone hear of anything like that?

Some people call me Maurice

SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc.  Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad.  2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1.  More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent.  Zendrum!!!

Hey space_cowboy, I don't know about vst's specifically, but Danny Danzi has a setup where he gets Sonar to trigger his pedal effects via midi live.  I wonder if you could something the same way.  He made an awesome video explaining to me how to do it, but most of this stuff is over my head, plus I just play straight through Marshall with no effects usually.

Here it is if you want to watch.
