Cannot access Cakewalk forum - Vista/IE7

Hi guys, I'm obviously doing something daft here

Now I have my new PC up and running, I restored my old computer (the one I've been running in Safe Mode) back to factory settings and everything is running fine, well almost...

Whenever I try to access any of the Cake web/forum pages, I get this annoying little pop-up:

When I click on 'OK', I get the standard 'Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage' screen.

I've tried adding both Cakewalk.com and the forum addresses to my 'Trusted Sites' but they still won't open.

I'm using: Windows Vista/Internet Explorer 7

Many thanks in advance of any help.

Edit: I forgot to mention - I'm having no problems at all in Firefox 4 (he he, that's how I posted this!)

It appears by some sort of intelligence it doesn't like the X1 forum in particular.

    Blimey!

It appears that Straummy's powers of extortion are greater than that of 'The Bouy Enterprises Inc.' too.

I have the same problem with my work laptop with XP sp2 and IE7. The solution is, apparantly, to upgrade to sp3 and in turn IE8.

However, if you hit the refresh button (anything from a few to multiple times) it will eventually show the forum pages. You're using Vistsa, so the culprit is therefore IE7.

There are a few tweaks available if you Google the message "IE cannot ..... etc" but they didn't work for me. And I don't have this problem on other forums. Its to do with the way the forum coding is written and how IE interprets it. MS recommends the upgrades, of course.

So I'm stuck on sp2 for the moment, sometimes I get the impression our IT people are living in the past. Mind you, they rent the laptops and PC's, and change them every 3 years, so I should be getting W7/IE9 in September ....

    Cheers,
    Jerry

    Thanks for your reply Jerry.

I did a little research before asking my question and one solution seemed to be something to do with 'rewriting' (?) Java script, but not being that technical it left me cold.

I've installed IE8 and it's working fine now - what I don't understand is that up until I restored this PC back to factory settings, I'd been using IE7 to get on the forum without a hitch for over 3½ years!

BTW, I tried IE9 on my new W7 PC and it's horrible

Steve I found this- maybe it'll help.  ( do you have Skype add-on? If you do; To disable the add-on, go to Internet Explorer in Tools/Manage Add-ons. You need to disable any entries for Skype (there should be about 3 entries).
Skype will still work after you have disabled them,)

Solution: In IE, Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab and then uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions"... after you uncheck that option, restart your browser and try to cause the error.  If the error goes away, it was an add-on.  Now, once you know it is an add-on you can reanble add-ons and then disable them one by one in Tools -> Manage Addons to find the offending culprit.

    If you think it may be Javascript- I found this;
....the link to the page that was crashing was "[pagename].php#"... when I took the "#" out of the link, it fixed it.

    And one more....
    Open Internet Explorer.
Click on the menu Tools -> Internet Options.
    Click on the tab Security.
Click on the icon Restricted Sites.
    Click on the button Sites.
Under Add this website to the zone:
Type the text ‘ *.sitemeter.com ’ (with asterisk and dot & without the quotes).
Click the Add button. Click Close. Click OK.

I'm just off to pick the kids up, so I'll try out what you suggest later - the 3rd Party Browser thang you mention does sound familiar though.

    Wait... that's Blackburn, Lancashire.
I hope all the Blackpudlians will forgive me for insinuating that they're holey.

Been pretty good Bob. Just awful busy trying to hold down two jobs, remodel a house, and continuing to play music. And trying to record. How have you been?

Busy. Working 12-15 hours a day slinging cable. But we're making it.
Donna and I are getting ready to go back to Denver next week to see the kids. I'm pretty stoked for that. it will be the first time I've seen them since we came down here.

yeah, we had some fun in the ol' GT forum, didn't we?
Last I heard, Pistolpete was seen huddled next to Tony Iommi's hotdog stand, holding a boxful of Realtek chips, muttering something about the code.
