Windows 7 upgrade question
Hello everyone!
Currently, I'm using Vista 32-bit. Someone I know had a LEGAL copy of Windows 7 (he had bought a three-pack) and offered to let me install it on my computer (one of the three copies he bought). I'm also using SHS6XL and I was just wondering whether I should install Windows 7 32 or 64-bit and which version of SHS6XL I should install. I'm a little confused as to which versions work together. Any advice?

i dont think h.s.6xl was tested for windows 7.i wouldnt.but you can write tech support,they would have the true answer your looking for unless someone on here has used it with success

Unless she recently upgraded her software, Julibee uses SHS 6 XL on a Win 7 64-bit computer (in 32-bit compatibility mode) and makes great music. I also have SHS 6 XL on a Win 7 64-bit computer in 32-bit comp. mode, but I don't use this computer as my DAW; I use it while I'm on the 'net just to check the help files and try things out that folks on these forums might be having a problem with. All my recording is on an XP machine.

I would go with 64 bit if it works in 32 it should run on 64bit, as long as you can find drivers for your equipment.
I still like XP better it's less in the way and has fewer compatibility problems.

Don't install 64 bit on a 32 bit machine. Your computer will not work because your processor is a 32 bit one not a 64 bit one.

That is not necessarily true most machines these days have 64 bit cpu, i cant think of one that is not off the top of my head but if it was a low end machine there is a slim possibility that it may be 32 only, do a google search on the specs for your processor or check the manual for your computer. My machine is much older and it has a 64bit cpu. it came with 32 bit XP

My machine is much older and it has a 64bit cpu. it came with 32 bit XP On the contrary, there are still several machines that still come with 32 bit processors (Low end ones of course). However, there is the possibility that a 32 bit OS was installed on a 64 bit machine at the factory. This is rather unusual though and highly unlikely because most machines come with the correct (32 or 64) bit OS installed on their machine. Either way, Melodic Jimmy, do what mxz583 said and research the specs on your computer. If you do not know how to find them run a direct x diagnostic or search in the device manager.

Yeah, that actually isn't true. If you go to control panel on your computer and look at your information, it'll tell you whether your computer is capable of taking 64-bit. My computer IS capable of having 64-bit. I, however, had to go with a 32-bit installation of Windows 7, though, because I was coming FROM a 32-bit version of Vista. The person who let me borrow the W7 discs also had a 64 upgrade, so I probably could have gone from 32-bit Vista to 32-bit W7, then upgraded to 64-bit W7, but I didn't try it. I just wanted to get it working. But, I know for a fact that my computer can take 64-bit operating systems. Oh, and Windows 7 is awesome. In SHS6XL, on Vista, I'd be using about 40-60% of my system resources. With W7, I'm literally only using about 25% at the most. It really is good.
