Corrupt project file
After working on a project for 2 weeks Sonar without issue Sonar X1 has decided that I should use Studio One instead. Yesterday when I opened the .cwp file associated with said project it came up empty. The audio files where still present in the appropriate folder but the project file was blank. No more clip placement, automation, midi, plugs, etc. I tried right clicking the .cwp file in an effort to use a previous version but none were found. Any ideas on how to recover the project?

Another case for using Autosave... Try opening it in safe mode: hold down shift while clicking File-Open. If you have the audio files in the folder, just open a new project, drag and drop them in it and get on with it.

Autosave would not have made any difference as I save after every edit. Drag and Drop over 30 clips, figure out where the go in the timeline, set levels, plugs and automation? No thanks, at least not in X1. As for safe mode, I've tried that too. If this was the first time that this has happened maybe it wouldn't feel like such a big deal. But unfortunately it's not.

Same thing happened to me last night right after a long while of composing an entire synth lead melody. :( It happened.... with my autosave file.

Have you tried the built in back up under FILE - Rever to see if there is anything showing up there.

That totally sux0r. CHeck the file size of the project file. If it's not unusually small you may be able to have Cake recover it, I know they've offered that to folks in the past.

the best advise i can offer is to start a new project and drag those audio files into it..if this isnt the first time its happened then i would like to think there is a problem that none of us can solve and should be left for cakewalk..as wicked said, they have also offered to restore a project for me. sorry to hear about your loss man.i know how bad this bites. its demoralizing and just makes you want to quit. look into what is causing the curruption..its usualy easy to track down.and is almost always a plug in or an edit function..what build are you using?

I did and it is unusually small (84kb). Same as the other 2 times this has happened.
Djjhart, I agree, version saving would have prevented this. But why should we have to resort to that?

Autosave would not have made any difference as I save after every edit. Wrong... it would have helped because it saves it in a different file called Auto-save copy of filename.cwp.

Neat, I didnt know that about auto save Dave. I like to save each step of the project as I go under a different name in the folder... "projectmix1" "project mix2addsends" etc..whatever crazy things you do as you go.
