Fractured Pieces, new noise from Distant Towers

Good evening (well on the East Coast of the US it is) Cakies!!!

I sure hope that everyone is doing well or at least hanging in there.  Well, we have a new song.  We had to drag it kicking and screaming like an unruly child into the final mixing stages.

So we hope that you will give this little "snot nosed of a brat" song a good listen for us.  Any comments are welcome.....well unless they are really ugly and threaten to burst our rock star egos...then we'll just stick our fingers in our ears and say LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!

You can find it here at our website:
http://distant-towers.com/DTlatestsong.htm

or here at Soundclick:
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10652958

The (ir)responsible parties are....
Tom McCaffrey:  All things computer!  and some vox, synth, bass and that Sonar thing.
Preston Richardson:  All things loud and bangy......oh yeah and he plays the drums too.
Tony Wood:  Fret buzz........with a little guitar chording and picking thrown in.

Thanks and see ya soon,

I think youve really gotta get the low end under control...( vocals, bass and drums especially) vocals are incoherent, drums are boomy and the overall bass imaging is excessively muddy.. you can then mix clearly.I like the song and arrangement..slightly zappa in phrasing ect...nice

cool! always a good day. As ever, you do not disappoint. Almost straightforward at the start, nice vocals. love the little break at 1'05, the boing boing synth is inspired! cool guitar break from 2'00...then nice stop/start mid-section....ah the time-honoured DT segue! Which goes into a FANTASTIC prog rock section! Love it! Not overdoing it with the weirdness and FX, just enough to be ...odd! Oh yes, very very very good!

    Hi, Tony and Tom,

What's up, dudes!  Another VERY COOL piece of classy, unique music to add to the DT repertoire!

Lots of great creativity going on in this one with all of the changeups and different textures throughout the nice, full sounding mix. The short acoustic breaks are perfect, and I really like the rolling, overlapping harmonies towards the end, nice touch.

You always knock it outta the park, boys, and you've done it again!

This is great! This is all so original, yet it has a few elements sounding like bands from the past. I think I heard Zappa and Rush in there along with the guitar from the Shondells' Crimson and Clover. Cool stuff!!!!

A good day when DT posts a new song.  It's wierd, I listened last night and decided not to comment till I listened again today.  Interesting, innovative and excellently played and produced.  You have never disappointed me.  You guys go places that never even crossed my mind.

Mark:  Thanks for checking this one out and for the kind words.  Hmmmm.....based on your avatar, I think you'd be a perfect candidate for a front man for Distant Towers, LOL......definitely fits our wierdness factor!

bentfrog:  Thanks for listening and for the good comments and the specific critique.  I was getting the low end rumble on my PC system which has a subwoofer.  I didn't hear any problems on other systems but suggested to Tom that he put a cut on those very lowest freqs just in case.  Did you have a sub on the system you listened with?  Thanks and we'll put our ear towards that low end again.

Frank:  Thanks so much for listening and the good words.

James:  Thanks a bunch, we appreciate the words and the listen!

Mark:  Thanks for the good info and nice comments, very appreciated.  Tom loves to add those tasty little synths.  I honestly don't hear em for the songs but once he sticks them in, I just latch on to them and really dig what they do.

Bob:  Good to hear from you man, thanks for the seal of approval.  Your good ear is always appreciated.  Your last one turned from quick idea to a real rocker, I listened again the other night and really like the finished product, very polished.  I used my new Ibanez 12 string on this tune (she and I are still in the honeymoon phase.....much like you and your PRS I would assume! LOL)

Scott:  Thanks a million for taking the time.  We appreciate the nice words and the good ear you put on it.

Warren:  Hey thanks!, we really appreciate the time you took to listen twice.  Glad that it didn't drive you away, LOL.  Thanks so much.  Truth be told, we often go where we don't think of either, it just kinda happens like that.

Rik:  Thanks so much for giving this one a listen and for the nice comments.  I find headphones are my favorite way to listen to songs and Tom's creativity on the mixing end really shows in the cans.

    I second that thought..

This is deceptively straightforward on first listen, but as always, things start to creep out the woodwork on repeat - love it guys. Unique vocals and vocal arrangement, really creative stuff. Going to do a vid? That last one was superbly spooky.

Hey guys, I really loved this one... maybe my favorite of yours to date, and that's saying something.  It was simultaneously wierd and great which (to my twisted mind anyway) is a combination to strive for.  I particularly liked Tony's acoustic guitar work which was also very nicely recorded (what was the guitar/mic combo if I can ask?).

    Superb job all around.

Phil:  Thanks for listening and for the nice comments.  Glad this one struck you in a good way.  I wish I could say that my guitar miking knowledge was the source of the guitar sound but it was simply a new Ibanez 12 string with a built in pre-amp and EQ.  A quick cord hookup and an EQ tweak and I was in business.  I was surprised how good the 12 string sounds and plays for being a $399 special.  My non-American built PRS is another guitar that produces significant bang for the buck in my world.

Astonishing excellence to my ears, performances are excellent as well.  My 6 y/o is able to listen.

Guitar/drum handling is seasoned and solid.

Perhaps I'd have clarified the vocs in sections to understand the words (that is, if "I" wanted the words to be understood) ... while retaining the vibe, but the 'heavy' vox coloration (ultra-saturation and/or doubled for phasy comb-filtering) is sweet, mellow, and uniquely 'your signature'.  Or, I'd completely pull out competing instruments during the vox symphony ... the lead vox is dominant and has beautiful vox-harmonics backing!

This is my fav of yours to date due to the unforced melancholy balanced with 'hopeful' sweetness and that magic flowing gentle outro.

Sounds great.  A huge song with big thick vocals - man that sounds so massive.  Nicely recorded and mixed - I like that acoustic guitar at the bridge.  Really well done!

Whoa! That whole mid-section, then into the outro was trippy/mind-blowin'!! That was a topper gents! Everything was sooo tastefully done that I ain't singling anyone/thing out. NoHow mentioned that this takes you on a journey, and, I totally agree. All your music has this 'concept album' embedded in it, and I just love that stuff. Oh yeah..give that drummer a bonus too...
