MIDI madness - or a short circuit between the headphones?

Got a day a day free so I thought I'd download XI(b 246)

Having a few MIDI issues for the first time ever. I'm on Win7 64 Pro and the following is showing both Kontakt 4 and True Pianos.

I'm finding that on stopping a track, all MIDI notes that had been playing stop - but continue to sound (hang) when I press play again as if they had been sitting there silently hanging. This happens even if I start to play in an empty area of the track - and even if I delete the MIDI tracks!! They are playing when they are not even there! Crazy stuff. The panic button stop this. Zero All Controllers is checked.

Also,  on a simple one track-with-sampler scenario, I can play and record some MIDI, but having stopped, this kills my keyboards access to that track till I hit panic again.

It's probably something simple, but I'm stumped.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
FS

Most likely it's Preferences > Audio > Play Effect Tails After Stopping (or something close to that).

    Nearly!
Solved: Input Echo (ON OFF) All Tracks. Damn! I'm blinded by all this battle-ship grey.
    Thanks
