recording live guitar while hearing fx
Hi everyone, excellent forum, huge help to me Anyway, I had a quick search about this but I'm at work so can't spend too much time hehe Can anyone tell me how to hear effects in real time while recording with a guitar? I have set up a new audio track and I can monitor the guitar sound no problem (dry), and I can add effects to the guitar after recording it, but I need to know if I can hear effects in real time? Also, how do I add an FX bin to an audio track after creating a new (normal) project? There is a space where the fx bin should be and I can't figure this out. Thanks for you time, probably basic stuff hehe Mark

Simple: Turn Input Echo on. The space IS the Fx bin. Try reading the manual and the Help menus. Really helps.

Ahh right, thanks for the mild sarcasm. Other tracks seem to have box with 'fx' embedded within it, and this isn't the case with a blank project, at least not in my experience. I'm sure the help manuals I read half asleep last night will tell me though. Thanks

You might need to expand the track pane for the FX bin to show. You then right-click in the bin and select the effect you want to use. But, if you're using the stock computer sound card there will be a delay from when you play until you hear the sound of the effect. Dave is only being a little sarcastic because, like you said, this is basic stuff and his point is that it's in the manual. You have to think of it like this: people are EXTREMELY helpful around here, but it gets annoying for certain people when they're trying to help people who really need it (i.e, can't find the answer in the manual), but have to wade through posts that COULD have found the answer in the manual. :) Your FX bin question has been answered. As for input monitoring, there's a little button right above the effects bin (mute/ solo/ record/ INPUT MONITORING). Click that button and you SHOULD hear the wet signal if you have effects on that track.

I was not annoyed, but it will save you time if you look in the manual or help screen rather than waiting for an answer here. We're always happy to help!

No problem, lack of sleep and information over-load to blame for my daft questions hehe Anyway, still not seeing the fx bin in the track view. I know where it should be, from seeing it in the tutorial tracks, but it ain't there in the track view when I create a new project. I can see it in the track/bus inspector, but not when I expand the minimised tracks. Just wondering if there was a way of placing it there. Mark

Click on the "All" tab (near the bottom-left of the main window) to display all of the controls within each track. It is probably set to "Custom" at present.
