Question RE backward compatibility

Since around SONAR 5 you could always backrev a project in a pinch - you'd get a warning but the project would open and you'd be back in business at the old rev. Is this still the case with X1? What happens if you save a project in X1, then realize you've made a horrible mistake and decide to go back to working on the project in 8.5? (Assuming you haven't used the ProChannel). Surely someone here has been faced with that scenario. If so, how'd it go?

Works fine here, even with Prochannel having been used on the project.  It comes up with a warning that it may not sound the same, as well as "overwriting will cause loss of" (paraphrasing (info settings etc, relating to prochannel or any other features not present in 8.5)).

X1 is fully backwards compatible with SONAR 8.5. As is the case with all prior versions of SONAR we spend a lot of resources testing and retaining backwards compatibility which our file format supports.

Yes Bit - I've been through this scenario when X1 simply wouldn't work for me.

Apart from the obvious feature of the ProChannel, everythnig opens in 8.5.3 exactly as it should.

You thinking of switching? I seem to remember you were sitting on the fence regarding X1

Personally, I love the X1 interface. I'm using both X1 and 8.5.3 as I have a large number of ?WIP projects which were started in 8.5.3 and this is one problem I and a number of other users still have - X1 doesn't seem to like projects created in earlier versions, but for brand new projects, I think I've only had the one crash.

Nah, 8.5 for the foreseeable future. X1 offers very little in the way of substantial improvements, aside from the new user interface - and I've never had a problem with the old interface.

Always the optimist, however, I'm working on the assumption that X2 will overcome all previous limitations, fix all the old bugs, add sophisticated editing tools, and include a world-class limiter. In preparation for that possibility, I reckon it doesn't hurt to become at least conversant in the X1 paradigm.
