Are 64-bit plugins backward compatible?

Will plugins that are considered 64-bit run on a 32-bit OS?

As far as I am aware most 64 bit plugins ship with a 32 bit version.  Some Kontakt libraries that use the time streaching features are begining to emerge that need the extra memory 64 bit brings to run so could be considered 64 bit only.

+1 to what Glyn said, but to answer your question directly, no.  32bit plugins and 64bit plugins are written differently.  however, again, as Glyn said, they should ship with both versions in most cases.

you need the correct version (32 or 64 bit) depending on the OS you are running. I don't think they cross over very well.

You can run 64-bit plugins in 32-bit hosts using J-Bridge.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

This is exactly how IK Multimedia plugs are. The installer asks what version(s)  you would like to install.
