Only Right channel in videos...

This is a question on working with videos in Sonar X1 Producer. After I have imported the video into Sonar, when I clicked Play, I want only the original Audio in the video to play on the Right channel only instead of Stereo. For an example, the latest Windows Media Player allows you to choose the audio to play on Left, Right or Stereo channel especially if the video is a karaoke video.

So, how do I do that on Sonar? Thanks.

Do you want the audio to play back on right channel or do you want it to be located on the right channel so that left one would be free for another audio? That's a very crucial difference, still you only talk about playing back the audio.

I've never imported video into SONAR, but I assume you need to bounce the stereo audio to mono, and then drag it to the right channel of a stereo track.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Kalle Rantaaho: It is like this I wanted to import a karaoke video file into Sonar, and then put vocals (audio) into it. So, during playback I want the video imported into Sonar to play only on the right channel so that the vocal is off. This is so that, during recording of the new vocal by my vocalist, he won't need to hear the existing vocal in the karaoke video file.

After the recording of the vocal is inserted together with the karaoke video file, I want the vocal to be heard on the left and right channel too. So, how do I do this? Thanks.

take that stereo-track and bounce it down to two mono tracks (split mono in the bounce menu)..
    mute the original stereo track,..
on the new 2 mono tracks you'll just mute or delete the karaoke vocal track, done.
you need to put the audio and video tracks together in another program, as sonar is not yet capable of exporting videos in an acceptable quality. Windows Movie Maker should do.

Frank or anybody, I hope you don't mind to guide me step by step bcoz I am a newbie. So, what I am suppose to do is... first step (please correct me if I am wrong):-

After I imported the video into Sonar, I click on Tracks menus, and then I click on Bounce to Track. Then, I am lost here. What should I do next at this point?

    Thanks.

not at my daw right now..
but once you selected/highlighted the corresponding audio-track to your video, you go to the tracks-menu, click on bounce to track.
There you only need to go to the drop-down-menu that now shows "stereo" and select "split mono" instead.
I guess if you hit "ok" now, that everything runs how it supposed to be.
Sonar will create 2 new audio tracks in your project.. the rest is described in my other post.. it's fairly simple:
    mute your original stereo track
mute the vocal track of the 2 new created tracks
    that really should be it..
the playback track should come up centered..
record the new vocals.. and so on..

Frank, thanks... I have tried your steps, and I already clicked on Split Mono and mute the rest of the tracks. Now I have another problem...

When the vocalist is trying to sing into the mic, the vocalist voice is transmitted to the speaker instead of the headphone. Does anyone know how do I set the background music and the vocal to be transmitted only thru the headphone during recording?

    Thanks.

By the way, how do I export the videos in Sonar using Movie Maker, as I have tried to export the video using Sonar but it doesn't work.

I have opened up Windows Live Movie Maker. So which file should I open from Windows Live Movie Maker? Thanks

dependant on your audiointerface it might be or not be possible to make individual mixes for your headphone and/or the speakers..
if the headphone output is not available as an output in sonar then you have to power off the speakers during recording.
what audiointerface are you using ? there might be more problems than just that..

you dont export the video from sonar!
you export only the audio from sonar!

when you use Movie Maker you import/open your original videofile (with the original karaoke tracks)
then you import the audio that you have previously exported from sonar and place it underneath your video.
Movie Maker has an audio-tab where you can balance/mix those 2 audio tracks..
export that video as wmv (it's the only fileformat available with windows live..argh..) and convert it with "super" to whatever fileformat.

Hi Frank... it works. Thanks. Now I am trying to put the audio into Movie Maker.

Btw, anyone know how I can increase the reverb of the vocal during recording and playback?

    Thx.
