Need help getting that Metal sound on drum mixes

Wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on getting those flat, punchy kick sound and generally the overall Metal sound for drums, i.e: Lamb of God, Pantera, etc.

The sound I've been able to achieve so far is pretty clean, just not exactly what my metal clients are looking for.  I understand if you don't want to give away every single technique, but if you're proficient in achieving the sound I'm talking about, hopefully you could give me a couple pointers to get me started in the right direction.

Thanks!

One thing I have heard of but never tried is to tape a quarter to the kick beater.

most metal drum sounds are a mix of the kit and samples, esp in the more extreme end of things. even live, they will use triggers to achieve that consistent kick sound...

studio wise, the kick sound is often a mix of two different kicks - one given the thud, the other the snap/click. again, these are often replaced by samples, using something like DRumagog, and samples like Steven Slate of SD2 metal expansion packs...

of course, the drums are also very heavily compressed, parallel compression is used a lot, and you will find the drums pretty dry.

Thanks for the tips guys.  Is there a way to do this with the Real Drum Kit plugin on Sonar 7?  I learned how to do drum replacement long ago on Pro Tools, but my memory is foggy.  I'm sure there is a way to do it.  If someone could outline the steps of drum replacement in Sonar to kind of refresh my memory, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks

This actualy was a thing Ive seen done a lot years ago at live shows people puting the coins under a base drum fallams patch and stick it to the base drum

Triggers are the way to go for that sound though :)

Here is a YouTube video showing how to use AudioSnap 2.0 for drum replacement.
