Last night...
My RUSH tickets survived the end of the world so last night we did battle with 20 miles of road works and made it on time to the LG Arena in Birmingham.* We had a great night, Rush were on form as usual (are they ever not), though the passage of time is beginning to tell on Geddy's voice as he drops a lot of the high notes from the early songs. When you hear the new stuff played next to the old stuff its obvious how they're adjusting their style to account for Geddys smaller vocal range. Still all good stuff though. "Caravan" and "BU2B" sounded good and went down well. The movie shorts at the start of each half were hilarious. Nice to see stars like that prepaired to make fun of themselves, even Neil. Show started at 7:30, finished about 11:00 Overall rating: two thumbs up A taster (from my iPhone) * other Birminghams are available

Good video for a cell phone. Most are distorted beyond comprehension. Looks like a good time was had.

Any time at a Rush show is a good time! Glad they saved the world so you could see the show.

Karyn A taster (from my iPhone) I don't get Rush fans. Why did you leave your front row seats to go to the back of the arena to take a movie on your iphone?

The last time I saw Rush it was so loud (8 rows back) that my son and I could not talk to each other during the drive back as we could not understand what each other was saying. Did they have the washer/dryers on stage this time?

They've gone steampunk, to match in with the "Time Machine" tour theme. Remember the film of H.G.'s book, large dials and indicators. The washing machines behind Alex looked like large 1920's radio sets with a crt in the lower half, showing... washing tumbling, in B/W of course. Behind Geddy was a similar setup of assorted gadgets that a chef tended to during the first set. A large portion of the live video on the screen behind Neil was overlaid in the same style of rounded CRT displays and moving coil meters. The two main vox mic stands on stage front had extra mics halfway down, large suspension cage things to pickup the guitars and bass.... and Neils cowbell was out of tune, but don't tell him..

I'm certainly glad that the end of the world could not deter Rush. It sounds like it was fun.
