More James Taylor covers (with new Rode NT4 stereo mic)

Well, after much consideration, I ended up buying the Rode NT-4 stereo mic, because it suits my home studio needs and my desire to record directly to the Camcorder. I am very impressed with its fidelity at both the low and high end (understanding that I play a sonically challenged Ovation), and can't wait until my Eastman arrives so I can try the two together.

I recorded two James Taylor songs last night directly to the camcorder, no e.q., reverb, or anything.

Please let me have your constructive criticism. I know my voice is straining on the chorus to Secret O Life, but that's lack of practice for you . . .

Hi Steve , this is nice and natural sounding. It's also a brutally honest recording of a man in a room singing with a guitar. It all depends if this is what your after soundwise or if you want to add reverb etc. You've clearly got the talent.

    Greetings, Rik

I guess people don't want brutal honesty, as you're the only one who commented. (I note that many of the synthesized, 20-track efforts get lots of comments).  Anyway, I did record a cover tonight into the DAW to get some e.q. and add some stereo reverb.  What do you think?

Very nicely done. This one seems to be very true to the original. The levels are better here than on your version of Fire and Rain. I am having some buffering issues with YouTube, but it was recorded very clearly. Nice work. James is not the easiest guitarist to replicate, but surely is a master at his art.

Thanks.  I try to stay true to the original, whiel recording guitar and voice simultaneously.  I know most others around here would record a track at a time, which allows one to be a perfectionist, but there is something to be said for the direct-to-two-track approach.

Hi, Colonel. Finally took the time to listen to 3 of your JT covers. I appreciate the PM to clue me in and that you think my opinion is of value.
Nicely done, guitar and vox-wise. It all sounds good to me, I'll leave the comments on EQ, reverb, etc. to those with better ears than I have.
I take it you're an Air Force JAG? When do you get the time to practice and record?
Anyway, good job, I enjoyed the songs.

Ithink you play very nicely and the vocal is also very good.  You know, sometimes people just don't come here for awhile and a post can go for quite awhile without a reply.  Don't ever take that as an insult.  I was amazed at how good that sounded just recorded into a camcorder.  nice job.  Oh, if you are a JAG, the Army JAG at Ft. Bragg saved my bacon one time when I went "above and beyond" in Myrtle Beach.  I've had a soft spot for JAGs since then.:-)

Thanks to the recent posters for the nice comments.  I'd like to do some originals one of these days, but I write appellate briefs for a living, and that seems to to sap the creativity out of me . . . .
