Lyra, once you get your drum controller hooked up for playing/recording MIDI in Sonar, I suggest you keep it straight forward and record on one MIDI track. It's much less confusing, plus you'll be able to actually play your kit in a natural all-at-once way. If you need to do some editing, it's very clear in the Piano Roll View which note each part of the kit is assigned to. It's the audio being driven by the MIDI that you want split into multiple tracks, so each part of the kit is on a separate track. That's a simple matter of adding audio tracks and having them connected to the one MIDI track.
