May I know how do I export the vocal and videos to an avi file?

I have tried File --> Export --> Video but when I open the avi file, the video doesn't display anything at all.

Any suggestions?

Exporting video from Sonar is a bit hit or miss. What format and codec is your source video?

If your source is an AVI, then to export to an AVI, do File->Export->Video, choose encoding options and choose "No Compression" for video.  For audio choose whatever format you need--what format do you need?

Exporting to Windows Media Video works about the same.

But if you're going to be doing video, I really suggest getting one of the entry level Vegas Video products.  You do your soundtrack in Sonar, import it and the video into Vegas and export from there. Works every time.

+1.  Sonar isn't and wasn't intended to be a video editing program.  With a bit of practice, you can produce video sound tracks well enough in Sonar, but you want to import the 2-track master into an actual video editing program for the final product.  Export as a standard .wav file, import that.

I've read that somewhere before.. but make that +2 on that one..

    to the op,
at least you are motivated to get things done.. great.. don't give up!
even if you would see some kind of "video" or animated pixels.. you should use a video-software for video! on the audio-side you seem to be fine..

I don't think he was asking to edit any video, he wanted to know why exporting his video and audio was not coming out correctly.  Something Sonar is intended to do, as they give us the tools to do it.  However, Sonars video importing and exporting can have mixed and sometimes frustrating results for reasons that are beyond my understanding.

I usually export the video separately from the audio, I mix the two together in Windows Movie Maker (it comes free with Windows).  As Tarsier said, if you need anything more than that, a video editing program will be more usefull.  I am anxiously awaiting purchasing one myself, hopefully I will be able to get rid of 1/2 the headache medicine in the cabinet.

the op had his answers already in another post..
I tried to export from within Sonar and was kind of "amazed" (yeah, think positive)
it's not a matter of cutting/editing the video.. it's a matter of exporting it.. and once you get that done you'll know what I was saying about "animated pixels"..
anyway, the idea with Windows Movie Maker is the cheapiest and easiest way to get the job done.. hm.. actually it's free.. and it doesn't take a degree/manuall or book to figure out how it works.
I have tried a lot of video-editors and Sony Vegas will be the next purchase I'll do in that direction.. it's simply amazing (no irony here!). They offer a 30days full trial version.. I guess you can probably record that vocal track from within Son...y as well. It also supports VSTs, so could actually use your own plugins..
