Sonar 8.5 noise and crackles when using soft synths

We are using Sonar 8.5 and are finding crackling noises when we play back our compositions.

We can isolate them to:
These are MIDI tracked using the soft synths Rapture and Demension Pro.
When we add in soft synths with an extensive amount of delay/echo built in (I.E. Rapture's Quiet Dream)
The crackling is espacially noticable when a note is followed by a quite passage.  The crackling follows the note by 2 or 3 measures.

The othe tracks on the composition do not exibit the crackling or noise.

Anyone have any ideas?
Anyone willing to try our composition sample to see if they hear the same thing on their computer?

softsynths like rapture and dim pro are CPU intensive.  the "crackling noises" are likely because of poor drivers for your soundcard or latency.  what soundcard do you have and which driver mode are you using?  what is your reported latency?

Thanks.

I have an old EMU-0404 that I use for some Software defined radio setups.  I will try that on our Cakewalk computer.

Looking at your website, I see that as one of your recomendations, BUT I went to the EMU site and did not see and current drivers for Windows 7 ????  The latest driver they had was from 2008 ???

S o you get crackles when played back.

How about when you:

a) record with echo on the midi tracks
Any sign of crackles then.

b) if you freeze a synth/ track
Any crackles then?

Just press freeze button and you are done.

I just think you might be using to much realtime midi synths.

Freeze the ones not recording right now and see how it goes.

yep - looks like the 0404 drivers have not been updated for win7.  I'll update my website, thanks.

you didn't tell me about your driver mode and latency settings, tho.  this might be resolved by increasing your latency.
lfm's suggestion of freezing will likely work as well.
