Can you remove a glitch after recording?

Hi

I have a project which includes a vocal,  there are 2 'glitches' on the one of the tracks possibly due to the track being recorded at too high a level,  which is my fault entirely as I should have listened back to ALL of the track when the singer was there! but its there now and I was wondering (without spending £500.00) is there any way of removing/editing this with the Sonar software or is there anything else that doesn't cost too much?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

    Nigel:

Help me understand what type of 'glitch' you are referring to.  Do you mean a series of clipped peaks or a gap in your audio?  I agree that you shouldn't spend too much money on some things - other things are worth the investment.

    My suggestions include:

#1 Retrack that vocal - unless the client is unavailable or project costs risk over runs
#2 Does the section repeat (e.g. chorus) where you can copy and paste a usable section over the problematic area?
#3 I use Izotope RX2 for both of the situtations I mentioned above.  It does a miraculous job on audio gaps and an excellent job on clipped peaks.

    RX Declipped Example

I couldn't find the demonstration video on audio gaps but it is fairly impressive given the ease of use.

If the glitches are digital distortions caused by recording at too high a level, called clipped peaks then the answer is most likely no. I say most likely because if the distortion is at a spot where you can cut it out, like the end of a phrase, then maybe you can without leaving an obvious hole in the track. Personally I either re-record any vocal that has distortion in it or cut and paste as DonM has suggested.

If you would mention what exactly the glitch is we can give you some better answers.

dillyboy, how about posting a screenshot of the glitch, zoomed in fairly tight? Whether it's digital overs, dropouts or overflow inversion, the ability to transparently repair a glitch depends mostly on how wide it is. In most cases, there is lost data that must be reconstructed, and that can be very challenging - it's a matter of putting data back in that is no longer there. The shorter the duration of the anomaly, the easier it is to fake the missing data.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Cut and Paste if possible, If they are very brief sometimes reducing the gain for that wave peak will mask it. I use Wave Lab ( Tool export) to do this kind of stuff, but Sonars volume envelopes could be used. Just zoom in there.
