Bounce to tracks vs. freeze and move

Hey guys,

I've gotten accustomed to freezing tracks and then moving the audio data to a new track, as opposed to using the bounce to tracks function.

In X1, I'm noticing that I get little crackles from the frozen track. Is this normal? The freeze takes 1/10 the time it takes to bounce to track, so this makes me think the track freezing cuts some corners and isn't really intended to be used for what I'm doing. But I've done this for a long time in 8.x and never noticed crackles before.

Am I crazy?

Thanks!

You could try turning off "fast bounce" in the freeze settings. This will make the freeze take longer - but you can see if the crackles go away. Some synths like Trilian and Omnisphere don't like fast bounce...

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if that helps. It won't speed up the bounce process (which is why I use the freeze), but it will at least help confirm that it works in this way.

    Thanks!

I've never noticed a problem w/ freeze causing crackles etc.  I'd be interested to know if anyone else has this problem.  I've been freezing, copying and pasting for years.

I think you get it when a softsynth can't render fast enough for "fast bounce". Things that stream from disk like Omnisphere or Trilian (or Kontakt?) tell you not to render (bounce) in "fast" mode. Also things like Aether that use oversampling, might not be able to "keep up" with fast bounce.

    That's my take anyway...

I think John's right.  I know when I used to use Gigastudio that and other anamolies would occur with fast bounce.  I haven't had any problems with Kontakt, tho.

Great info guys, I kind of assumed that Sonar would "flow throttle" plugins so that it would just be a perfect representation, but that makes sense.

Now that I think about it, BFD2 also has problems with fast bounce if it's not in the bounce mode.
