Error Message

I used to used Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 for very simple purposes:  play single note (no chords) vocal lines of choir music for each vocal part.  September 2010, my PC died; I got a new PC and upgraded to Sonar LE.

Took me months to figure out the keyboard midi setup, but finally got it.  Recorded vocal parts for 4 songs.  Last time around, S/LE would not play my last entry.  Turned out to be recorded okay, S/LE just stayed silent.  Now, I try to record again.

Cannot get any sound, not recording the notes on the staff; S/LE died with this error message:

                                 "SONARESL.exe has stopped working"

and the program closes.  Do I need to reinstall it?  I have the downloaded files - maybe it'll be easier the second time around....

Any advice?

    Welcome to the forum.
What are your computer specs? Speed, memory, operating system, whether it's a 32- or 64-bit OS and what the sound card is.
Have you downloaded and installed any updates for SLE?

I do know that SONAR advises you to not use any power-management schemes, like sleep. And screen saver, wallpaper. Or any other programs that might use the processor while recording and cause noise or dropouts.
    Any wireless devices?
Also, you might want to edit out your serial numbers and activation codes from your above post.

Most of my multitasking is Firefox/notepad/a clock-weather gadget while using Sonar.  The clock-weather gadget is the most active thing running.  I will try shutting it down first....  Wireless?  Cordless phones by AT&T.  XM receiver transmitting to the house radios.  Cell phone - usually at the other end of the house.  Thanks for catching the numbers/codes in my post.  I can get stupid when this beloved/hated PC annoys me!!

Will turn off some of this stuff and try again.

    Thanks - Rita.

To the best of my knowledge (not having the patience to turn off only one item at a time) - the offender was the clock-weather gadget (Clock widget for HTC Home 3).  At any rate, with it not running, and a few others not running, Sonar is working.

The clock-weather is continually on line checking the weather display, which is also animated; not to mention changing the time each minute. (A gorgeous little thing it is.)

I really appreciate the help, Greg.  I was about ready to buy the old version of Cakewalk  that I'd had previously; sure glad I didn't waste another $50 for something I didn't need!!

Cool. You can check the weather later, and time? Who has the time anyway?

Old version of Cakewalk probably wouldn't have worked anyway unless you could buy a 64-bit version. :-)  That's how I ended up w/ 8.5 LE...Sonar 4 kept popping up "stopped working" messages in Windows 7 b/c 32-bit and 64-bit didn't like each other...
