audio sn(cr)ap

well not too constructive but i gotta give back to cake my bad mood ;-)

audiosnap in 8.53 - i NEVER used it because i was alredy convinced from the first version that its just too sensitive and messes up more than it fixes ...

but after a fresh install of my system i wanted to give it a try - and while i was amazed (a few seconds) because it seemed to do what i wanted it just turned out to be even a great sucker at the easiest tasks

the ONLY  thing i wanted to do was to adapt the project tempo to a recorded  4 to the floor tr-606 track (very straight - no weird sounds - but with "microscopic" timig issues - which i like cos they are groovy)
so i would guess that thats the SIMPELST thing that one can ask from it...as ist doesnt even alter audio at all...

but as a matter of fact - it behaves crazy - doest consider the first transient at the beginning - it EVEN introduces timestretching when i dont even chose that option ...omg

i tried it a few times and i have to say that its definitely uncool - as is can see no user error and as ONLY a first round of edits in a clip work i guess that the app ist just to throw in the trash can - why is this ?

regards

I got it to work just fine on a live snare I recorded along side of a MIDI drum track. Seems it will work if the song started life with a solid click track tempo.
I gave up trying it on live recordings. I couldn't even extract a tempo from a Kick drum track even after I edited out all unwanted leakage ( took 30+min in wave lab) It was a steady stream of transient spikes.
The song was at a very even tempo that I could chase with a drum machine. I tried every possible combination of settings. A half day wasted. So Ya, It's there for any fool who thinks it will work as planned and pull their hair out trying.

I've used Audiosnap; I think it's pretty cool. Didn't Cakewalk license Izotope algorithms that process these? Great move if I heard that right!

if it cant extract timing correctly from a 3 sound (kick , snare, closed hihat)  straight 4/4 beat without fx then i dont know how i should use it ...
as i said: strangely enough if you do the opertaion the firts time in a project it will probably work - but beware of undoing  anyting and try to do a slightly different edit - failed every time (???) resulting i poartially wierd behaviour abd slowing down performance etc... just terrible or even hanging the app completely
