Demo install error on first attempt, registration issue...
Hi- I got this error trying to install the demo: I was just using the defaults -- it found a previous product installation and won't let me change them anyway. I aborted, ran the trial .exe again, and it worked. Is anyone else seeing this? Seems like the install creates the "Cakewalk Content" folder it was complaining about on the 2nd go-round, but the name is clearly wrong initially. Maybe it wasn't tested on a "clean" system without that folder. Thanks- -Susan

It also doesn't let me register the trial, giving a "The serial number you have provided is invalid" message. The X1 trial isn't in the drop-down of products (yet), so maybe that's the problem. I just picked Producer X1 instead. -Susan

Haven't tried installing a demo version. The first time you tried installing it (the time the error appeared) we're you given the option to specify the folder files would reside? A cut & paste might have gone wrong. If you didn't specify the folder and just clicked Next for everything then it looks like it might be an install script issue.

No, there were no install folder options at all (I would have preferred some, BTW), so it definitely wasn't a copy/paste error. It looked to me like a script error, too, but so far no one else has reported it here, at least. FWIF, this is Win7, and my OS is in fact on drive D: Thanks- -Susan

a "The serial number you have provided is invalid" message. Seems to me I saw a bunch of posts about this misleading message being related to not installing from an elevated command prompt or attempting to install from within an account without administrator privileges.

I definitely have admin rights. I'm thinking the problem might be because the reg # includes "WT", which I'm guessing means "web trial", and there's no X1 web trial to select from the list yet. Just a guess, though. Thanks- -Susan

We cannot register the Trial version because it is not an option on the web form yet. CW has 15 days before it becomes a problem. Or would that be we have 15 days before it becomes a problem?

Yes, that's what I concluded as well. I'm still curious about the error I reported in my 1st post. I wonder if it only happens to folks with an OS install on other than C:, since no one else has confirmed this yet. It's not a problem as long as you go through the install again, but it's not the greatest first impression, either! Thanks- -Susan

Perhaps you forgot to close your eyes and cross all fingers and toes before installing? I never saw anything. But I did hear a big sigh of relief when the dialog box popped up and said the installation completed successfully.

Hi Zuma- Why did you put your OS on the D: drive? Just curious. Sorry, I missed this one. It's a dual-boot system. I put Win 7 on D: because I still have some programs I need to run under XP, which is installed on C: and I didn't want to partition the drive. I haven't had any other problems with it set up this way, and running the trial installation twice cleared this one up. It still seems like there's an error in the script, but apparently I'm the only one who will ever experience this, so I suppose it doesn't matter. ;) -Susan

For future reference, you can have both drives as a C drive in a dual boot system. Just name them different so you don't get confused. That way, no matter what OS you load, it will always be on the letter C drive. Even though they are actually different drives. Glad ya got it running!!! Rob

Hi Susan, I understand preferring it that way. If you ever do go with it the other way though, You have to be sure and name each drive... such as Sample Drive, Audio Drive, then name the 2 OS drives with something odd like C:XPshorty and C:Fatseven (makes it harder for someone to do damage on your machine IF they ever get in) Never leave it as C:Local Disk because everyone knows that is the default. Have fun, Rob
