I have tons. I love them. While we could argue about the sound of vinyl vs CDs, I know one thing that is way better - my kids do not borrow my vinyl. They don't touch it either. Not that I wouldn't let them, but I have kept a mystique about how the turntable and cleaner and so forth work. The other things that are great I love 60s psychedelia and 70s space rock - particularly the lesser known bands. Many of those have not made it to CD to my knowledge. And the obscure stuff like Lothar and the Hand People - Never saw that on CD (not to say it should be, but...) and Peter Peter Ivers band. Tons of great music that never made the classic rock rotation and subsequently rarely made it to CD The other The sleeves - the artwork - the ability to read the credits - the bling that came with some of them... CDs never captured that correctly. For instance, I have mint copies of the Beatles White Album (on white vinyl) with all the posters and stuff, Magical Mystery Tour (yellow vinyl) with the book intact and Sgt Peppers (also yellow vinyl) with the cut-outs and figures - not cut out. Zep III with the roto-wheel thingy. Sticky fingers by the stones - with the real zipper. Look at yourself by Uriah Heep - with the mirror....There are tons of cool albums that the visual art never transferred to CD worth a dook.

Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

The bidding is already close to 200 bucks (US) ... I am not really familiar with a lot of it, is there something rare or collectible in the lot or are people just bidding based on the story telling ability of the seller? On a serious ebay note, a couple of years ago I followed an auction for a Robert Johnson 78. It ended up selling for several thousand dollars. Unfortunately, I unloaded my album collection back sometime in the early 90’s. We had moved in and out of a couple of apartments and it was just a lot of mass to transport without anyplace to keep them … and like many people who did something similar, I kick myself. I do have a small collection of vinyl and occasionally, I pick-up something at the Princeton Record Exchange, through ebay or through a rummage sales and I do like to sit down and listen to both sides of an album on occasion. My playback is on a Dual 606 (which I bought new in high school and now I harvest parts of of TT's I buy on ebay … costs me a fortune) with an Ortofon cartridge, a 70’s Crown Pre, an 80’s Series II Phase Linear amp and a pair of refurbished Ohms (I reverse engineered the crossovers and rebuilt new ones using premium components). I guess I should have stated that I am 70’s – 80’s midfi junkie. Also, I rebuilt a mono Garrard 88 for 78 playback (another one that cost a small fortune to rebuild using harvested parts). A couple of years ago I had it all set up and ready do drop a stack of 78’s. There was a contractor working in my house at the time with an assistant who was probably in his 20’s. He looked at it and basically asked me what it was … I fired it up for him and let it play a couple of tunes from 40’s era 78’s. The expression on his face when the 78 dropped to play the next song was “priceless”.

I can't say I do Fog however the new release of The Who "Live At Leeds" and "Layla" both came with 180 gram. I didn't see any mention of "virgin" though. I too love my old albums and have the colored vinyl you mentioned Space and many more..really to many to list. The Beatles albums that have never been played is the Mobile Fidelity box set. They are virgin vinyl. Man I'd love to hear them....that is as close as one can get next to being there. Maybe some day I'll have a table good enough to give 'em a spin. Also have many of the picture discs that I like to frame and hang. My last purchase before the editions mentioned was a purple vinyl Deep Purple's "Shades of.." original still wrapped. But just buy an album...no. At least not one to listen to.

space_cowboy The sleeves - the artwork - the ability to read the credits - the bling that came with some of them... CDs never captured that correctly. Amen to that Bo. I always reckoned they should offer you a choice of the CD inside a proper 12" x 12" LP sleeve. I think Beag mentioned that this had been tried at some point but obviously never really took off.

I recently bought an album off eBay. I couldn't find it anywhere in any other format. I don't have anything to play it on though, but at least I have it... I love that listing though This meant that as well as **** taste in music, he had appalling taste in clothes too. Pringle jumpers, pleated Farrahs, shoes that looked like pasties, white socks, revolting shirts and a comical wedge-cut hairdon't.

I lost about 300 LPs in a basement flood a few years ago. Nothing replaceable at a reasonable price (if still in print). While I do miss them, most of my favorite stuff is available online somewhere... so when I run across one of my "lost gems," I pick it up.

I still have most of my LP's. There are a few rare treasures in there. Aside from some really good music .... I used to call in to a local radio station on the new LP giveaways, and got to know the DJ's pretty well. Before the days of caller ID, they knew my voice. Anyway, I won the Electric Light Orchestra album Out of the Blue... in the collectors edition with the clear blue vinyl .... very cool. On occasion I listen to an LP.... that music is so good....

A friend of mine still buys LPs--mostly used classics. He doesn't listen to them all that much. Mostly, he uses the covers for decor. He displays the albums on a wall that he has fixed up for temporary mounting.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys? X2(X3 pending hardware upgrade), Emulator X2, E-mu 1212M, Virtual String Machine
