X1 still running in background after being closed. Won't restart.

Hello all,

I'm running X1b x64 with the latest quick fix installed on a win 7 64 bit system. After closing X1 the process SONARPDR.exe appears to still be running in the background and Sonar won't restart without a full system reboot. This happens 75% of the time after closing a project and then closing X1.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Dave

This often happens due to MIDI drivers.
Go into Task Manager... right-click on SONARPDR.EXE... and choose End Process.
Once the SONARPDR.EXE process has ended, you should be able to launch Sonar.

Are you using a USB MIDI controller?
This used to be a common issue with Korg USB MIDI drivers.
If you're using a USB MIDI controller, make sure you've installed the latest drivers.

This may also be happening do to bridged 32Bit plugins (assuming you're running the 64Bit version of Sonar).
The workaround would be the same...

I've run into this problem with Adobe Encore and Adobe Premier Pro on my Win 7 64-bit system.  It hasn't been a problem for SONAR X1 64-bit though.

Instead of rebooting, have you tried ending the process instead?  This works fine for me when Encore or Premier Pro is having the issue.

Yup, I have the problem as well.. but mine appears to be related to bit bridged 32 bit plugs (running x64 Sonar).  I notice that the program that stops responding is TELEPORT.. closing TELEPORT allows me to restart SONAR...

Every so often however, this doesn't work and it creates the need for a reboot.

Just one of those annoyances of the 64 bit world (but I am not complaining).

Another thing that will work in some circumstances is if your audio interface has a power switch turning it off and then back on will usually release the hung processes.

Thanks for the help guys! It turned out to be a 32 bit instance of an Antares plug that was causing the problem.

I have this problem with Vegas. It's tedious to keep the Task Manager open all the time to kill the processes but otherwise harmless.

Whenever I get this problem I find that 'End Process' and 'End Process Tree' never works on SONARDPR.EXE.  It insists on staying in the list.  If it's baulked from closing by somerhing else how do I identify which other process is the culprit?

If the Task Manager don't suffice you can try the Microsoft Process Explorer. It will show more details about whats running.

This happens to me every now and then with 8.5, I find the easist way is to just turn off the interface and it comes right.

    +1

Normally just power cycling my USB keyboard allows the hung Sonar process to exit normally.
