Is there a tool to simply draw midi notes?

Does Sonar X1 have a tool that will allow me to freely draw midi notes anywhere I want and any length I want?

I want to freely draw midi notes without having to select a note length first.
I'm looking for a simple left click and drag the note to the length I want.

Hope that makes sense.

From what I can see right now, I am forced to select a note length first. Click to insert the note, and then click to adjust the note.  This is a waste of time imho.

I sure hope I'm blind and the feature is there but I just haven't found it yet.

Not really. I mean once you set your note duration value (in the tools modual), every note you enter will be at that value. However, you can select the Smart Tool (star icon) to edit all things MIDI in the PRV. For instance, to add a note with the smart tool simply press alt + click, then to use the mouse to lengthen the note and/or change velocity, etc.
    Hoped this helped.

in PRV, use smart tool, double left click on where you want the note to start, using smart tool, go to either end of the note and drag it to any length you want it

    Hi Spanky!

    Thanks for the response.

I found that using the Smart tool I can double-click to insert a note, and then immediatley edit the note, so this will work just fine.

Alt + left click also works, but I try to be as lazy as possible.

Editing midi in Sonar X1 seems to be pretty slick.

    Thanks again!

I did not know about the double click. Cool.
