How to Loop Midi?

How to Loop Midi?

Hello,
Is there a way to use Sonar X1 to capture the midi I play from my USB midi keyboard (including all, after touch, CC etc.) and play it back as a loop while I play another midi lead over the top?

I’m looking for something that works the same way as a guitar loop pedal:
example:
1.       Step on the pedal
2.       Play guitar rhythm
3.       Step on the pedal again, what you just played “loops” over and over so now you can play a lead over the top.

It’s not necessarily for recording, it’s just a way to flesh out ideas. If Sonar can’t do this, do you know of any other product that can?

Thanks for the info

Sure.  I would select the time span you want to loop (you can drag along the time line, select clips, etc. to do that).  Then, in the Loop Module of the Control Bar click the "Set loop points to selection", and hit play.  In that same module you can turn looping on and off.  Explore a little and check the help for finer details.

It can be done as kelsoz described, but there's a logical problem with MIDI looping that you don't get with audio, and that is that if you play a note that is meant to be at the beginning of the next loop, but your timing is a little early so that the note-on lands at the very end of the current loop, the duration will be truncated, and you'll essentially lose that note. Likewise, any notes that you hold across the loop will be truncated at the end of the loop.
