vc-64 on input list?

Why does the Vintage VC-64 vocal strip show up as an output choice for a track?  I was looking for a way, if possible, to route a realtime vocal recording through a plugin limiter so the recording is limited as it is recorded rather than applying it after the fact. Possible?

    the VC64 has a sidechain-input..

any "yes", you can use a limiter/compressor in realtime during recording..
just place that plugin on your fx-bin and enable input monitoring.. given that you run a low latency..
the audio will still be preserved.. meaning, if you disable the effects you'll get your clean, original and uncompressed signal again.. so that limiter/compressor has to be always active!
The limiter is technically placed after your a/d-converter, which means if you overdrive your a/d-converter you'll get distortion. (unlike a hardware compressor/limiter that is placed before the a/d-converter)

Frank is right, but I think the point needs to be stressed that the ONLY way you can apply limiting on the way in is to use hardware in front of your AD converters.

Incidentally, there is no need to apply any form of compression or limiting with 24 bit systems. Just make sure you record at a sensibly healthy level (-12db is a good place to start) to make sure you don't clip your AD
