All of a sudden, lag.

I have been working with X1 Studio all day.  Recorded several tracks, no problem, no lag.  Then literally, I close the program, walk away for an hour, then I come back and now I have lag.

Here's what happens, I am recording a guitar part using M-Audio Fast Track Pro as the interface.  On the track within Sonar itself, the meters show that upon input, no latency and when I use the Input Echo, I can hear my guitar in real-time.  However, when I go to playback/record with that same setup, suddenly there is a half second delay of what I am playing.  Just all of a sudden it starts doing this no matter what track I use.

Ladies and Gentleman, I have went through troubleshooting, reinstall of Sonar X1 Studio, reinstall of M-Audio Drivers, re-install of patches.  Before all that, I went through preferences, did the test, check Devices, Audio Hardware checks, made sure I was ASIO and also tried the WD... whatever setting as recommended from the site.  No avail.

I have a i7 Intel 970, 24 gigs of ram, and an SSD Operating System hard drive, Windows 7 64bit and I have lag.

Also another glitch that came with this was when I close Sonar, this little menu comes up saying Reset Button for a second, then Windows 7 tells me that that the program stopped working.  Even with the reinstall.  So what's up?  Any ideas anyone?

I have also noticed sonar slowing down and lagging, generally after long sessions.

I use only samples and soft synths with very little latency (Driver settings in sonar report: 5.8 msecs, @ 256 samples).

New projects and old (when initially opened) seem responsive with no noticeable latency when playing soft synths. However as time goes by the playback becomes gradually sluggish. I have to resort to inputting midi data via the PRV because the latency becomes so large (I would estimate between 0.5 - 1 sec). There is even a delay before playback when pressing 'play' on my oxygen 8 V2 controller, this does not occur for newly opened projects.

Sonar does not crash, but I cannot play or record soft synths in real time along with the opened project after a long period of use.

In one particular project I am using only 15 effects:

    3 sonitus EQ
    5 sonitus compressors
    1 sonitus gate
    2 sonitus modulators
    1 Ferric TDS
    1 ReaEQ
    1 CM Fuzz
    1 Voxengo MSED
2 Busses with prochannel active (1 EQ only, the other EQ, Comp and Tube SAT)

and my CPU is barely being tickled (across 8 cores) according to Sonar's CPU meter.

I have an intel 920, Asus MOBO, 4 gigs of RAM, two HDD's (one system, one audio), Win 7 32 bit, Sonar X1b PE Build 255 and Sonic core Luna II (X2) sound cards.

I noticed the same thing. When I record I see the meters moving with no lag but the clip renders a second or so late. It does this again and then for no reason the lag dissapears and all is good.

    Very strange indeed.

This seems like definitely one of the more serious issues with X1, if in fact it is not user error or related to a particular user's system.  Your system is certainly robust enough to handle digital audio, easily.   Since several users are reporting it, it once again gives me pause as to when I will upgrade to X1.   I hope you made out a bug report to Cakewalk about this.

I am still holding off upgrading for now.  I installed my current DAW in 2003 and have had literally flawless performance and zero problems over the past 8 years, in which I've completed many pieces and 4 albums.  I am currently using Sonar 7.
