I am ready.... If you promise to hold my hand, that is.

I am trying to venture for the first time into importing video into Sonar.
I just want to do some mastering on the audio of some live performances I shot with my new Sony HD camcorder.

I don't have any idea what I'm doing.
What do I need to do to the video files so that they are importable into Sonar as video and audio?
Then, how do I put them back together?

Can anyone recommend video editing software that is easy, powerful, and reasonably priced?
Currently, I just have WMM and the utilities that came with the Sony Camcorder- PMB stuff.

I am very grateful to anyone who takes a few minutes out of their day to instruct me in this mysterious black art known as "video".

    Hi James,

Are you working with the 64Bit or 32Bit version of Sonar?
Apple hasn't released 64Bit QuickTime support for PC.
(For the time being, QuickTime .Mov files can't be loaded in X1 x64.)
If your Sony camcorder records HD video in Sony AVC (.MTS files), you'll need to convert those to AVI, WMV, or MOV (under x86) format.

If you'll be working at lot with video, I'd recommend checking out Sony Vegas 10.
Vegas 10 is a well-equipped video editing environment... and it's also nice for layout/mastering audio CDs.
If that's too much, think about their Movie Studio package... which still offers a lot the core Vegas features.

    Go slow. Use lube.

I've found that advice works for most things.

That said ,if you want to edit your video you're a non-linear editing program. Vegas, suggested above, is my fave as well, and their cheaper progz work just as well.

I've only had good luck converting videos to WMV first. I use a piece of software I bought called iOrgsoft Video converter. It's a little janky, but it works pretty well.

I've never gotten other video to really work.

For editors, Vegas 10 isn't too shabby. I used the demo for a little bit. I own Premiere, so I usually end up using that, but it can be a total pain.
