You Rock Guitar

I know most of you are "purists" when it comes to musical intstruments and such....however, what is your opinion on this You Rock Guitar as a Midi Controller? Toy or Tool? (for a guitarist who doesn't have the keyboard chops....).

Although it looks like a toy for gamers, I'd love to have a midi guitar controller (without a big price tag) instead of using the keyboard, but I don't know what limitations this might have in using softsynths.

Hi Mesh, not sure the cost of it or if you can only pitch bend with the whammy bar.
I have 2 Guitar MIDI devices Sonuus G2m  $98.00, for monophonic with full pitch bend control.
The other is an old Casio DG-20
polyphonic but doesn't recognize any bends. I picked up mine from ebay for a few hundred.
About 6 months ago, someone here, I think it might have been Michael (Spacey) posted an up coming product for the game Rock Band or Guitar Hero. The ad said it was a genuine Fender Squire with full MIDI tracking capability, intended to be used with the game but the ad said it can be used for MIDI tracking.  If the price is right on that thing grab it IMO

Edit: Just checking it out more, the strings don't go up to the fretboard, I just cant see how that could feel natural, and $249.00. I think you'd have better luck with this from ebay for $179.00  http://cgi.ebay.com/USED-...h=item3a66183611

If they are going to release that Squire with full polyphonic and pitch bend capabilities, I have a feeling you will be seeing a lot more options for folks that just want a controller without the cost of buying a MIDI guitar and module. The Casio DG-20 is from the early 80's, the technology is not exactly new.

That thing is pretty cool Mesh. I've actually tried one and was more impressed than I thought I'd be. What scares me is what I'm about to share with you.

Just try this if you have a few minutes to spare without cheating. While surfing the net or the boards or whatever...listen to this file.

It's long, but pretty incredible. You can jump around if you want to as it has all different styles of music within the file. But check it out. It may take a minute to load up.

    http://www.prominy.com/demo/SC/SC_ALL_demos.mp3

After you listen to it, go to www.prominy.com and see what you just listened to. Watch the vids...and then turn your head and try to just listen and not watch for the first time. It's amazing how different it sounds when you don't watch how it's being done. This thing is so realistic sounding in my opinion, it's scary! :) I've not heard anything sound like it anywhere.

Great...  I can see many guitarists replaced by keyboardists in the future! *sigh*

(I DO like the piano one though!)

Wow that is scary, guitarist replacing keyboardist, keyboardist replacing guitarist. I don't think anyone's job is safe. Even vocalist, I would venture to say it's just a matter of time before there's a vsti softsynth with Frank Sanatra's voice, just type in the words then play old blue eyes on your keyboard or midi controller. Perhaps one day there will be a Bapu in the Box and that certainly has to change everything..no?

Wow!!! The playing alone is awesome....(can't access the videos at work)....and from the comments above, I'm dying to see what the fuss is all about with the switching musicians.
Is this something like Strawberry Electric Guitar from Orange Tree?

Thanks Grant for that info. I looked into the Sonnus awhile back, but it's monophonic.....Controlling my VST's (strings, keys, bass etc..)  on a guitar would be soooooo much easier than using the keyboard. I'll check out the Fender Squire and yeah....polyphony is important.
