There you have the greates polka ever. This finnish polka by Viljo Vesterinen has actually saved human lives.

During world war two finnish troops re-occupied the city of Viipuri (Vyborg). The russians had left radio controlled mines all over the city, and finns did not have generators to produce a constant disturbance-signal to prevent the ignition of the radio-mines. So this polka was played non-stop for about two days using the right radio frequency and the mines were dismantled during those days.

I deliberately picked a performance with a little less bling than in the one in OP. I was impressed by Weird Als stuff, I must admit :o)

That's pretty darn cool....I sure didn't know polka's could do that. I saw on TV that Gene Autrey singing
western songs could make aliens heads explode. I guess him singing a polka is like a super weapon or sumpin'.

Two days????  Of having to hear that same song???? ....

oh my... reminds me of the 3 day bluegrass festival I attended many years ago.....

But I guess its better than being blown to bits by a Russian mine....

Imagine the cheers when they finally shut that song off....

Leningrad Cowboys play some great vodka/polka songs. They generally open their act with one, and close it also.

Can't access YouTube from China so can't post example, but they were sponsored at one time by Stolly vodka !

    Cheers,
    Jerry

Slim Whitman singing Indian Love Call in Mars Attacks made aliens heads explode, but I never knew Gene Autrey had that super ability too. Those old timers could really sing! :)

Yes. Leningrad Cowboys knew their polkas :o)
It was at the time when russian rock bands had to work more or less under all kinds of restrictions, they couldn't travel and foreign bands could not get in. Then these finns named their band "Leningrad Cowboys" and thus exploited the curiosity felt towards the east. It was mostly really camp humor, even though some excellent musicians visited the lineup.

Tens of thousands of tourists came yearly to Finland those days only to see the Russian border! Having our eastern border just a stone throw from St.Petersburg/Leningrad did give us some gray hair during the years.

I'm glad you cleared that up....I knew it wasn't Donavan or Ernest Tubb. I had to take a guess. I was going to
    go with Roy Rodgers.
