SI Drum Kit needs to be registered separately?
A friend in England is setting up a Cakewalk interface with Sonar LE, his foray into digital recording. Tonight he told me that when he went to use the SI Drum Kit, he got a pop-up saying it had to be registered or he'd only have it for a limited time. - But I think he's already registered his LE - I've never heard of a Cakewalk soft synth like this one needing to be registered separately--? Is this a misunderstanding on his part-? Randy B.

sharpdion23 Yes I am pretty sure you have to register this seperatley Thanks, Sharp - That seems to be the case. Since I never had to register the SI instruments with my copies of Sonar, it just surprised me that LE users had to do that. I guess it's Cakewalk's way of controlling the distribution of some of its apps - OK, guess that's that case. Thanks. RB

Randy, LE is a stripped-to the-bones version of Sonar. Other than Dreamstation and an SFZ player, it doesn't have anything. Not even a GM synth, such as TTS-1. I've long maintained that this was a huge tactical blunder for a product intended to entice people to buy into a fuller version of Sonar The SI Drum Kit is bundled with the Cakewalk interface as a separate app, not part of SLE. It's a subtle distinction, but that's why he has to register it separately, and you didn't.

Yes, now that I have the exact same Sonar LE on my 'puter, I can see how limited it is. To a total digital audio newcomer, it's still a lot. It's too bad there isn't a basic GM synth provided though. I'll provide my buddy with a freebie Sound Font GM module that will play in his SFZ, so he has that particular thing covered. It's not clear to a new user that the SI Drums isn't something automatically included with LE, since it's there as part of the package - it Does seem part of LE. But I don't think there's any particular hassle with him registering it - I've yet to hear from him if that worked out OK. I'm sure it did. I'm glad that I was able to find a Sonar 8.5 LE to download from my account page at Cakewalk - now I can see exactly what he does and doesn't have. I was ready to fill him in about the wonders of Layers, when I saws that layers isn't part of LE. I'll just keep referring to my newly downloaded LE so I can steer him right. Thanks for your help. RB

+1 to Robert. I really can't understand the logics of not having a basic GM-synth in LE. The frustration this creates is surely a common reason for not staying with SONAR. Propably the most common question in LE forum is about "not getting sound from MIDI" and having to answer that "Yeah, you're not supposed to.. " feels really really stupid. What I would have implemented is something like a one click insertion of TTS-1.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
