Annoyed at NI - Kore 2 is going to be discontinued

That is really irritating, makes me regret getting Kore 2 and several of its sound packs... granted they're supposed to be updating to 64 bit support but still... their focus has really shifted to Maschine and DJ stuff... I hope they don't forget the rest of the musicians

Yeah, NI can be really cruel like that. So what will host our Kore sound packs that we bought? Kontakt?

I guess, they won't Be usable anymore As soon As Kore will Be incompatible with your DAW/OS so this is Not only is a Kore discontinuation. Customers lose Major money here. I am upset and angry about this Move. Not Long ago, ew Said publicly that Kore is NOT about to Be discontinued. I bought into it. 400€ plus some soundpacks. Then there will Be an offer to crossgrade to Maschine, for 400€ That is over 800€ with Losing Kore functionality. I might have bought Maschine instead, As soon As it was able to Host VSTs and Provided SOME Kore Sound Features... This is a ridiculous Move.

Sounds like they are moving to the DJ realm??

I mentioned the Kore fiasco in another thread ,and apparently they feel the Kore 2 user base is too small to fool with. How difficult is it to allow the Kore to control future software packages

So there is going to be a cross grade offer for owners of Kore 2 to get Maschine?

I have a few Kore sound packs, Deep Reconstructions, North India etc.. I've been debating selling Kore 2, as my sound packs would still work with the Kore Player, but I'd rather sell it now while it's still worth something, but if there is a cross grade offer to Maschine that IS appealing and affordable enough I might consider that too

This whole Kore fiasco also has got me thinking about software in general and the benefits of analog hardware. How it doesn't become incompatible with OS updates, and it generally has the "sound" that software tries to emulate in the first place. The downside being that it is generally (the good stuff) much more expensive...

And it gets stolen and when it does you can't download a replacement.

I no longer use VST instruments, only VST effects. Recording with pure audio is great- no stress on sound card etc.

    Hi
yet more bad news re manufacturers dropping product lines without consultation and after we (the customer) has invested a great deal of money....emmm how right you are about buying "proper" musical instruments.
I have a full (very full) Powercore set up that will stop working soon and now also a Kore 2 set up which I assume will also stop working once operating systems etc are upgraded.
I also have a number of software only products that will go to the wayside once I upgrade - kjaehus, Gigaplayer (MUSE), IJ Data and Atom Splitter to think of just four.

So I look like getting "stuck" for a bit longer with my current set up - XP 32bit and Sonar 8.5.3.
However it works very well at the moment so I'll just have to forgo products that won't work in this environment - I saw some Kontakt library advertised recently that was 64 bit only - actually I've already deliberately forgotten what it was so no temptation to buy!!!!

I think this will also change any upgrade strategy I may have in the future  - I use a small network linked via FX teleport at the moment - all I have done is as I've upgraded my main computers over the years, I've just left a few programs I don't use so much on the old systems, linked it to the network and it is still available if I need it.
I can see me doing the same thing here, but having to find a replacement for FX Teleport as that ALSO seems to be unsupported now!!!
But my old hardware synths just continue to work - with the odd visit to the synth hospital of course! Very impractible for live work though.
Perhaps we should start to demand that Software Companies set up some kind of legacy / insurance program for when they drop products / go bust, so we the paying customer does not CONTINUALLY pick up the tab???
    Nigel

PS  What exactly have NI said about Kore 2 - I seem to have missed this one?

Kore 2 will cease production in June, and future instruments and libraries will not include Kore support.

Now the Kore hardware/software system is great a "librarian" with smart search and a hardware controller for the instruments functions/controls

I still dont see how this cant be coded into future products, but my software engineering knowledge is dismal..

I find it interesting that it was mentioned as one of the five best VST's in that other thread by a few people.  I wonder why the decision to cease production then?

I should have known it was too good to be true. Back in Dec. when they ran the 50% off of Kore 2 sound packs. I bought a whole bunck of them......I love Kore 2......I wanted Machine but it is just too expensive and the cross grade offer is like throwing a bone to a dog.............I just cannot tell you how miffed I am at this!

I love NI stuff ....but I guess it is kind of like the housing market......I took a bath there as well!

Well the Maschine cross-grade pricing for Kore users isn't enough to get me excited. I hope they port Kore packs over to other engines like Kontakt and Guitar Rig..

In the mean time I've started looking at some of Dave Smith Instruments, the Mopho and Tetra!

I think your Kore soundpacks will still work in Kontakt.  No??

No, they wont. The free Kore Player is also discontinued (it's available still for download, but you have to go to the discontinued products section of NI's website, and there's ZERO info on whether or not it will be updated to 64-bit like NI claims Kore 2 will be).

The reason Kore Sound Packs will NOT work in Kontakt is that Kontakt is a sample and Kore is a host with built in engines for each of NI's instruments. A Kore Sound can comprise several instances of each NI instrument and NI effect. Kore lets you layer sounds and add effects, and then save that as a Kore Sound. For example: A Kore Sound that uses Kontakt's Orchestral Strings + a Reaktor Oki Computer snapshot + an Absynth pad patch + a Massive sub-bass + an FM8 bell + a Guitar Rig effects chain + Kore 2 native MIDI and audio effects...
